I've just come back from seeing my mate who's an audiologist and he's told me I have a perforated eardrum.
Im not deaf in one ear but it's definetly more quiet than the other one, it feels like Ive got water in my ear but just permanently - been like this for a week now and it's really starting to piss me off!!
Got it from diving into a swimming pool, but he reckons the stress to the ear from monitoring (I always use the same ear for monitoring on the decks) is the base of the problem.
Before this, I just thought 'ahh it'll never happen to me' and just lived in ignorance about hearing.
But it's opened my eyes a bit and after I get it fixed I'm definetly investing in a set of moulded acoustic earplugs! Don't care if they look gay, I'd rather be able to mix for many years to come to be honest.
Sorry if that all sounded a bit patronising but I can't stress enough how much it feels like a case of "you dont know what you got till its gone" !!
