Pendulum talk about forum critics

Pendulum haven't sold out and i never thought they had i just think Granite is a shit tune. it doesn't make me want to dance i don't even enjoy listening to it. I can easily say i like maybe 3 of pendulums tune and one of those wouldn't be what it was without Dj Fresh (Tarantula) And then pendulum decide to fuck of from breakbeat khaos and start making gay tunes ;)

1 - so Bryan G is a sell out because he releases ANOTHER V compile album with the same re-releases we've already had? (Planet V, V Forever, V Classic)
Is Fresh not a sell-out too as label owner of BBK?

Grooverider did an album for Sony, what about that. Sell out?

I dont think so, and I havent heard them accused of it lately either.

3 - they have every right to answer like that on the forums; thats the point of a forum, even for well known people. They have always been online, and I can think of at least one other very well known dnb artist, Goldie, who has defended himself online in an obnoxious manner. But as he was seen to be upholding the image of steet tough dnb everyone ate it up.

and wot is brian g doin now? fair enuff hes a legend and i'm sure he's still out there but he's not a name every1 mentions thesedays

y has fresh sold out by seeing to their demands?

i dont care that which label they signed to they jus seemed to want to shit all over BBK in the process

and goldie pisses me off any way, i got a message from metalheadz on facebook tellin me about thier nite and it was the only place where you won't hear that weeks top ten dnb tunes.

no hurt you
no mr happy
no lighter
no if we ever
no harder
and no1 this week is disco dodo, so none of that either

fair enuff u can do a set without these tunes but i wud be dissapointed if i went out and didnt hear any of these, well except disco dodo

^^^^^
ring of truth, but they have defied the odds so far.

I think the post is quite bitter, but justified.

They have every right to reply to their critics. I just think its amazing how negatively the majority of the scene seems to have turned against them, and for such pathetic, lame small minded reasons. If a band can be so huge and then so despised in the space of a couple of years, for the things they have done, it makes me wonder if I respect dnb anymore ... its sad.

no offence.

/sigh

we jus dont like austraillians thats all! lol

You're never gonna hear any of those jump-up tunes you mentioned at a Metalheadz night, altho you might hear High Contrast .... and that makes it bad?

No Hazard or Lighter remixes?

haha sorry mate, thats just funny.

Pendulum are an anomaly for WM. It's generally felt that there is definitely a market for their sound but targetting it is easier said than done.

The drum and bass scene generally shuns it for sounding one way and the rocky/metal scene shuns it for sounding another.

Evidence? See Pendulum @ Fabric last month.

However.

I think if theres one thing the Drum and bass scene does better than any other music scene, it's crossover. Pendulum are attracting a fair bit of attention to the general DnB scene, and that is only a good thing. It will certainly be interesting to hear the new album.

They've got every right to respond to internet critics. & like Lokki said, don't take what they said as an attack on DnB cos it clearly ain't.

I think they've been v.clever in working as 3 ppl under one name for so long, giving them 3 x the impact and 3x the bookings to play out too, and I reckon they'll stay together.

Not least cos the live act is probably one of the v.hottest bookings in music right now. For example: At Liverpool Music Week Pendulum Live is the only event sold out, not HardFi, Kaiser Chiefs or Chemical Brothers, or loads of other BIG names. That tells you summat.

Good luck to em. They've brought a lot of £ into DnB and a lot of new fans into the scene. They've also shown that new acts can break thru to big time A list status (in just a few yrs too), after yrs of everyone moaning that DnB was a closed shop run by the old school names...:hype: etc...

:coffee:

does it not just feel like they've taken the piss a bit? to me it seems like they've always been a metal band that couldn't make it, so they made some d'n'b, got massive, and now they're turning they're back on it. lame!

yeah u got it!!!:D

Every rave i've gone to where pendulum are meant to be there they either haven't turned up or are on for shit all time, or maybe i've just been too mashed up and missed them or something

pfft, errrr... "I’m glad it was us that got to drive the final stake through its STALE PIG SHIT HEART - and GOOD RIDDANCE.

“Wake me up when YOUR GENRE is making something that people outside the scene think is WORTH listening to again."

nah of course not!

the reason people go to metalheadz is to hear stuff you dont get anywhere else

Ok..clearly people aren’t understanding what’s going on…

It seems like you are reading buzz words and not actually the context of what they are saying. They are not saying they hate dnb..but the way people reacted. Also they are saying that if any music scene was so weak as to be toppled by one artist then it deserves to die! They are not saying we hat DnB and want to kill it off.

I personally don’t like them as a band, I think they have a long way to go. But I really respect them for what they have done and feel that they are one of the biggest contributors to dnb since bad company rocked onto the scene a few years before them. (broken record<<) I think the state of most dancefloor dnb is fuckin laughable at the minute, production values are quite weak…but I know that dnb evolved and ayounger generation get in and do what they want..thats cool. Its all a rich tapestry IMO..there is room for everyone, narrow- mindedness just doesn’t work. If you don’t like whats happening, go learn how to make tunes and do what you want to do. Dnb has always taken from other genres, Pendulum bought the rock… things change so fast in this scene but you gotta realise that reacting so negatively to stuff creates an insular scen, and it will just collapse!

All this shit about how Pendulum have turned their back on the scene as mad. Like it was their plan to come along make massive tunes and then fuck off… like they owe us something! Lol. “ right we’ll make some wicked tunes, everyone will love them, then we’ll create something new, some will like it some wont, then we’ll create a band and really piss everyone off…ahhahahahahahha”…

lokki, they, in every sense of the word, are disassociating themselves with DNB, showing little respect for it and stating that it's not worth listening to for outsiders...of which they consider themselves...along with a hypothetical view that they would have gladly been the death of DNB had it been the stale pig shit, that quite clearly he feels it could possibly be.

he wouldn't have said what he said otherwise.

:ditto: That's what I was gonna write but couldn't be arsed.

If any scene could be killed off by one act, that would be a shit scene with no depth right (which dnb ain't obviously). Pendulum have if no way killed off dnb but are constantly being accused of killing it off & 'disrespecting it' by internet haters.

There was dnb b4 Pendulum and will be after Pendulum, but with more ppl buying the music, going to raves and taking an interest. These things are good for dnb.

good riddance

dont give a fuck what they are like in person, ive just never liked most of there tunes and i just dont like there sound

hold up, i've got nothing against them, and totally agree with the well considered response about their 'sell-out' tag, but the last two paragraphs have an element of spite, firstly an unecessary vitriolic pleasure at their hypothetical killing of the DNB scene (which, yes, is clearly not the case) and then a clear dig saying how boring OUR scene is, stating they do not consider themselves to be a part of.

not a major attack on DNB as such, but clearly a dig, which i find amusing.

It is a vitriolic post for sure, but its a reaction to the whole 'our scene' (your words) attitude that gets put about.
People talk like they don't have a right to state their opinion on dnb, having been part of the scene for years, sold X records, not to mention the dnb work Hornet did before becoming part of Pendulum, of which many in the UK would know nothing.

They are stating they won't be limited by being part of the dnb scene, which considering the absolutely constant attacks on them by said scene, might be justified.

Its just a dnb version of NME turning on the latest big thing once they are bored.

Hello... The thing is this... Firstly, they made tracks that everyone loved because they never heard that type of shit before... Everybody in dnb courted them to come over and emigrate over to the UK...

I have known to be a Hatter but I did mellow out due to the fact that in the past they changed dnb for the better, making it more accessible for those that didnt hear type of music, to get others to tune in...

But to say that they were never dnb was a very rubbish statement...

So all these tracks you made were a lie... All this bumlicking & fanboy shit at your pendulum concerts & raves when you headlined that you most probably lapped up was a lie as well... All this love showed to dnb headz on wherever was a lie... The money, women, etc was a lie as well...

The way I see it was that you did sell out as you made something you wasnt in to to make money from day one... If you wasnt dnb you shouldnt have made dnb... You should have started a band and made hipstep...

As everything progresses, we all became critics... We know if a dj or mc is crap because we most probably have heard better... We listen to a certain sound and love it because it is not the sound we are told to hear by the commercial stations...

That is why were are on this forum... You can tell by a certain sound if someone is selling out because their sound is getting weaker by the track - it is been "made for TV" people have seen commercalism in dnb and heard it all before, and pendululm crossed that line...

Fair play to pendulum... You need to make money to survive... We all do... But to go defensive when the real people who have listened to dnb for years know you have turned pony...

Pendulum... Please dont claim that you are down with dnb when it goes tits up after your live ting... Because when you go "outside" you are very small fish in da big world of commercialism...

Disrepect to the matey who wrote that piece...

Dnb promoters should stop booking them. They clearly dont class themselvs as dnb anymore. If they want to make this pop shit then fair enough but it aint dnb:weakest:

Scientists have shown that people's brains cease to make rational decisions when they try to think about issues where they have a me vs them bias (the example was Democratic and Republican voters in the US, testing with brain scans, the centers of rational thought literally turned off).

Same with Pendulum.

The followup thread where Pendulum say that they're stopping slinging shit in the monkey cages with the monkeys (those are my words) is a jewel.
