sampler vs sample player

    whats the difference between a sampler and a sample player? can you load your own samples into a sample player? e.g. kick or a bass or snare or what ever, whats the difference between then ? cheers ibby

    It's mostly just wordplay, but sampler is something you can use to modify the samples heavily, like filter them, add modulations, timestretch, cut, loop, compress, EQ, etc. A sample player is something that you simply load up a sample with and play it. It would not have many options to shape the sound as a full fledged sampler would.

    As kama said, some companies put the word player after their 'lite' versions of a sampler, with less parameters available for altering.

    looks the nuts to me mate, kontact is brilliant. im guessing kontact player is a soundfont player and not a sampler as such, but im sure its really handy to have. for a great free sampler check shortcircuit2, hans swears by it
