radio 1

Who's Phace? Is that a genuine question?

How is it represented then? Surely by playing people like Sub, Brookes Brothers they are representing the scene. Yeah, maybe they arent representing the entire scene but they have specialist shows for that (Fab & Groove etc). They play the obvious Dustep too (Skream & Caspa), which isnt representative of all dupstep but its being represented nonetheless, which can only be a good thing surely?

example: they play emalkay - when i look at you quite a bit during the daytime atm, which has some pretty grimey synths and samples - and no one seems to mind.

But none of the DnB they play even has a hint of grimeyness or wobbles.

richie is asking.....why is this?

But thats how a majority of the dubstep records sound. The synths are quite agressive and quite grimey, from them playing that Emalkay record to Eastern Jam. Its just the tunes that have been playlisted all have that one particular attribute. Theres probably people on dubstep forums asking why Radio 1 doesnt play Martyn's tunes!

Have you ever thought that none of the guys who make dark D&B are trying to get their records played on Radio 1? Maybe they dont wanna be lumped in with Sub Focus etc or its some weird credibilty thing..

yep, genuine question!

cheers harry 3, you get what i'm on about! i freely admit i could be wrong about how radio 1 'representz' (ged it), it's just in my experience...

in answer to your question these types of tunes are played because they are probably the only dnb tunes they have heard of. it took me ages from actually liking and listening to dnb before i even knew what a few tunes were called. and plus the liquid tunes are the dnb tunes more people buzz off so radio 1 are more likely to play them to get a better rating

Im sure they have heard of more dnb tunes but its radio 1!!!! They gotta play for the 'general' public not ragin dnb 'eds?!

play that on radio 1 :)

but i understand what your saying..

main thing that gets under my skin.. ive just come back from being in the car, annie mac was on, rinsing dubstep. its just everywhere now which really puts me off it more and more everytime i hear it.

but thats just me.

hearing noisia - stigma or something during a working day would make me wanna skank, give me much more energy.

then again, if that was on a 'working' enviroment, i think most people would be like, what the fuck..

thats why i dont get how 'Step can just barge in there and no one have anything to say about it.

Just say Neigh. Fuck it!

right on the money IMO - dubstep, from a 'mainsteam' perspective i would say is associated with wobble bass, grimey synths etc, so those kind of tunes are playlisted .

Obviously radio 1 bosses have started to push the DnB sound on the back of the success of Pendulum, chase and status.. so i think it's pretty understandable that they'd chose to playlist tunes which the mainstream listener would 'get'

I guess what I mean is that something like feel about you by J Majik isnt 100 miles away from a pendulum tune, whereas darkstep/neuro/generally not "commercial" tunes are probably seen as too deep and that the mainstream listener won't 'get' the tune and so they'll listen to something else.

OK, this could just be my experience but i thought i would see what you peeps thought about the representation drum and bass gets on radio 1...

is it just me or is it only liquidy/cheese/mainstream that gets airplay and none of the filth? (this aint no liquid hate thread though!) you hear some really gnarly tearning synthy tunes from the dubstep camp, so how come when it comes to dnb it either has to have female vocals/be a remix or be by sub foucus/pendulum?

anyone else think this is true?

when these tunes from subfocus n chase n status were first made i thought they made raves go off proper so why arnt they classed as jump up? i jumped up enough when these tunes were played.

i listen to radio 1 at work and they play some dnb but not alot, they seem to play the same ones everyday, chase and status - end credit i hear everyday and also dj fresh - hypocrane.

I think they are playing it for the youngsters but if they wanna play dnb they should be playin different tunes and mixture of tracks

dj fresh - hypocrane.

Fucking hypocranes

i agree completely although a number of radio 1 dj's were playing both timewarp and machete when they 1st came about on the scene n they werent jus been played late at night coz i used to listen to the radio at work n i heard machete come on around midday time so i had a little skank session whilst doin my work lol.

jump up is a style not a dance

They play the tunes that get people listening at the end of the day.

Most popular to the majority. Why do you think they also play Shakira and Britney Spears and all that crap. They know which age groups etc listen at what points in the day hence why they dont play the stinkin dubstep at 11 in the morning!

At least they play dnb. Not that I lsten to it, I listen to my CDs with the music I want on lol :D

I don't care what Radio one plays.
I know what i like, and i don't need some next radio DJ telling me whats 'massive'

stfu radio one, stfu.

I'll stick with the new releases section on Redeye ta very muchly.
