Label subscriptions

I would be bang on this with full artwork copies.

I don't play out, I don't need to have the tunes early, but being a massive collector of anything artwork would be important for me (y)

Definitely this. Opens your options to a bigger consumer base.

I wouldn't really worry about extras etc at the moment (I know a few heads were pissd at paying extra for a Ram poster on a 'special edition' release) as 100% of people I know who mix are worried about one thing only....THE MUSIC

This seems right to me. Promos and early releases are what would count for me. Also, artwork is nice for early releases, but not necessary for me. The only thing artwork does for me is help me locate records anyways.

Do you get any refusal on tunes??? Like can you pick certain artists from the label? I want this one this one and this one...but no this one...tick list kinda thing?? or full package? give people the choice. One mans meat is another mans poison and all that jazz!

i think if you're going to get a subscription with a label in the first place you should have a vested interest in its sound and the artists they support, that system would never work if everyone were to pick and choose

Surely if you feel like that then your best bet would to be waiting until they are released then you can make your own choice lol no point in subscribing otherwise. If i was to get one it would have to be a label with unmissable content, which for me would be Samurai as there hasnt been a release ive missed this year so far!

already underway, thanks for all the info in here though, confirms what we thought :)

Interesting reading. We've done a subscription at Horizons for a while, it's nicely subscribed and we do like to give our vinyl subscribers something back with a few exclusive goodies apart from the vinyl itself. We are really trying to keep vinyl going and the subscriptions themselves show that there are some pretty loyal fans of the label and vinyl itself - more exciting ideas to come.

http://www.horizonsmusic.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?cPath=98&products_id=943 has some more info. For labels itself, i think its a no-brainer.

Big ups, good merchandise bundle too

I do get what you are saying, and I would imagine this to be true with the more specialist labels out there and some of the artists are like chalk and cheese. If you offer a budget package where the customer gets to pick 3 of it's favourite artists from the roster at least they have a choice. I'm looking at this from a consumers point of view. It's nice to have choice as a consumer not be forced.

There are some labels I would happily receive all there tunes for sure, just in some circumstances there may be just one artist on the label I don't really like and it would be a shame to think I was spending £20 a year on records I didn't really want. I understand it's probably easier to arrange a full subscription, but some labels have huge release schedules and it would add up substantially I would imagine. For a smaller more independent label with a specialty in a particular genre of dnb I enjoyed or a label filled with artists I admire then I would certainly consider it.
