Best synth for pads / drones / ambience

So I've been trying to improve my ambient pads/atmospheres recently and I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations of synths that are good for this. I've been trying to get to grips with Alchemy but honestly it seems kind of clunky and the end result seems to sound a bit thin and digital. Although it's possible that I just haven't delved into it enough. Also, Omnisphere is probably great for this but I'm poor AF and can't afford it lol. Any other recomendations?

you know what i used to love doing pads on, the one before alchemy, camel 5000. downright amazing pads on that synth.

Absynth is pretty good for drones, once you learn the ins and outs of it.

It's a bit like Alchemy, but it has better FX.
