Kick and bass EQ

Hey guys. I'm working on a new tune with a buddy I met not too long ago. I'm still a little iffy on sidechaining the bass to the kick and snare and all that. But this track i'm working on has a much harder bass line going on. its distorted and heavy. That being said, I'm having a hard time when the kick hits. I've had little progress since I first started the track but sometimes when I listen to the heavier parts, I feel like the kick is still lacking. I have a loop of the first part when the bass gets in to get an idea of what I'm talking about.
