I need something to chop up for fills and groove layers. . . Anyone know a good place for free rock and heavy metal drum loops and/or stems. . . . .Something dynamic with a bunch of variation and rolls?

I dunno of sample packs, man... but there's lots of drummers (professional, talented ones) that do masterclasses on youtube. Maybe you can find some gem there.

You should check the ezdrummer, it's a lot of expansions to make any kind of genre. In particular the 'rock solid' expansion has an amazing quality of sound for rock/metal loops

139 euros for Ezdrummer. It's not that expensive.
