I use:
Amen break/Think break goes into Recycle. Resulting rex file goes into Battery. Battery belches out a midi and each transient mapped to a cell. I put the midi into ezPlayer. I hand crop each interesting transient as a starting beat for multiple tracks in ezPlayer and midi learn trigger them with chromatic notes on the keyboard. I send ezPlayer into battery and it plays the break perfectly in sync with DAW from different starting breaks.
THEN! I can record the trigger notes I played into ezPlayer , and quantize them. Then, I record the output of ezPlayer (lots of chromatic notes corresponding to each transient) and you can quantize those for extra tightness the original drummer never hard, should you require (I also use a little swing quantize to keep it natural but tight).
Anyone else use something like this?
