I have a clio and when it was snowing i tried to clear my windcreen with the wipers and subsequently burnt the wiper motor out (i think)

is it difficult/expensive to sort, can i do it myself?

no wipers MOT wise, depends on the MOT tester but technically you don't need em (v dub boys take em off for the super smooth look)... cops on the other hand might not be so happy?

As for a fix yourself, if you are generally quite handy then it is easy... go to a scrappy with a bunch of tools and rob some used ones, replace... et voila!

you may well have just melted the connections to the motor if it was under strain...

get the soldering iron out and investigate!

There is very little chance you have burnt out the motor...

Check fuses and if nothing has blown (replace anyway as you might not see/ notice the break if not inspected properly) then check wires connections.

A multimeter to measure might help ;)

No wipers will fail an MOT yes. Also very dangerous in the eyes of the po po.

You would be able to get instructions out of a HAynes manual to do the wipers.

You've probably just broken the wiper linkage. You'll know if you've done this by putting the wipers on & if you can hear the motor, then the linkage is broken. If you can't hear the motor, you may have popped a fuse or the motor is fucked.

I don't know how hard it is to do renault Clio's, I did a Renault Trafic van today funnily ewnough which had broken the linkage.

Usually the motor and linkage are under the panel which is under your windscreen. You need to remove the wipers then all that stuff to get to it. But I don't know 100% that that's where it is (although it is on most cars)

As for price, things like that are usually dealer only & can be quite dear.

^^^^ that's a pic of the wiper motor & linkage.

    Hope that helps. :clown:
