im new in the whole DnB scene so sometimes i just download a mix and listen if its any good. but it seems there are subcategories. liquid DnB has more of a jazzy soul sound to it. im trying to avoid the categories of DnB that i don`t like like the fast paced crazy dnb which some MC mabbling on the background. what styles are there, and is there a subcategory for those "i will take you on a trip through your mind" DnB ? and how do i recognize those subcategories?

greetings from a newB in the drum nd bass scene

If you want deep heady stuff check out neurofunk. Artists like Phace, Misanthrop, Axiom, BSE, C4C......

Techstep is probably my favourite subcategory. It's pretty much D'n'B with elements of techno. Check out Prode, Protek, The Sect, Raiden, Unknown Error, etc...

Neurofunk's also a really good subcategory.

    Just avoid jump up! :D

hmmm if you want liquid stuff then cool but it might still have sub sub genres in a way?...

in liquid funk you can have:

    jazzy stuff like makoto

real ambient synth stuff like ltj bukem

and more maybe poppy in a way like high contrast and ez rollers...

some more good liquid funk artists are bungle and marky from brazil (they do songs together and seperate) but i dont know what that comes under in those 3 i gave?

sub catorgories that i know of include:

liquid funk - light stuff but can also be like pop drum & bass like stuff? artists include high contrast, dj marky, bungle, influx uk etc...

Ambient/Intellegent - i think it is kinda diffrent to liquid funk but not by too much. alot slower and not banging drums. its kinda got synths and stuff. artists include ltj bukem, photek etc...

jump up - hyped up fast techy computerised tunes. artists include dj hazard, generation dub, taxman, original sin, clipz etc...

tech step - still banging but not like jump up. dark stuff and evil like tunes. artists include technical itch, evol intent, ewun , dylan , neurofunk etc...

gully? - not sure of the real name for it so i took it of what fabio calls it. its more empty in tune wise but have drums and mystery sounds that make u think ur in another world. this includes isually one label i know of called metalheadz. some artists are alix perez, doc scott, goldie, break, brekage etc...

    LOL!

Just have a listen to all of it thank you please...
I hate sub catorgories. Its just Drum and bass for f**k sakes.
You either love it or hate it as with most music.
There is a next thread on the subject on here already!!

I agree with radius cus dnb doesn't really fit with other dance music styles in the mix. For example a house dj can mix in a tech house tune etc to make him unique but with dnb you can't really do that so I reakon the best dnb dj's are the ones that play all the different flavours of dnb. Its ok to lean slightly to a cirtain style but its better if you play a bit of everything!:rockposse

hmmmm i dont mindsub genres that divide jump up and and light stuff but as long as its all in the genre d&b. however the sub genre idea has gone out of text...

for example there is now a sub genre for d&B thats is made in brazil? i meen that involves jump up, or liquid so how can that be a sub genre? anyway its called sambass..

i really hope marky, bungle and dj andy dont agree with this idea... :-/
