3 MEN GO INTO A HOTEL. THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK SAID THE ROOM IS £30.00 SO

EACH MAN PAID £10.00 AND WENT TO THE ROOM.

A WHILE LATER THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK REALIZED THE ROOM WAS ONLY £25.00

SO HE SENT THE BELLBOY TO THE 3 GUYS' ROOM WITH £5.00

ON THE WAY THE BELLBOY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT £5.00 EVENLY

BETWEEN 3 MEN, SO HE GAVE EACH MAN A £1.00 AND KEPT THE OTHER £2.00 FOR

    HIMSELF.

THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID £9.00 FOR THE ROOM, WHICH IS A TOTAL

OF £27.00, ADD THE £2.00 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = £29.00

WHERE IS THE OTHER POUND ????

Seriously were is it :mrpanic: :mrpanic:

I like these crazy messing with numbers things,
Its like you have 11 fingers.

Count down on one hand [10, 9, 8, 7, 6] then add the 5 thats on your other hand = 11 fingers

reason why its confusing is cos you always subtract a pound instead of adding one

25 quid in the till + 3 quid in the geezers' pockets + 2 quid in the bellboy's pocket = 30 quid, the cash in the exercise.

Adding up the money 'spent' by the geezers (27 quid) and the money in the bellboy's pocket and expecting it to come to the cash is a fallacy because it doesn't take into account the money in the till. Cash vs 'spent'. The 27 'spent' quid is not money that the geezer's have in their pockets and its not money in the system.

nope thats not right at all. They paid £28 for the room...... 28 divided by 3 = 9.3333333333333333333333333333333 re-acuring

So... in fact there is an amount thats missing...... an infinatly small amount that is lost when the re-acuring number 3 is in an equation.

So yeh there is some money lost.... but not a pound.

Nor would you ever be able to tell how much......??

    No mate.

I'll put it simply, 27 quid is not spent 'on the room' its spent on the coke and room.

    1) They each had 10 quid at the beginning, they have 1 quid each at the end, equals 9 quid spent each... on the hotel room AND the bell boy's coke.

27 quid = 25 quid in the till + 2 quid in the bell boy's pocket.

25 (till) + 2 (coke) + 3 (pockets) = 30 quid, the money floating around at the beginning.

    No money is lost.

    2)
.333333 is not an infinitely small number (no such thing actually). Its 1/3 of a quid. Its an infinite decimal number - it can't be expressed accurately decimally. However 1/3 is an exact representation.

1 / 3 times 3 = one quid. Nothing is lost when you put it back into calculations.
