What do you think is the ideal mix length for a typical regular mix?

This will of course have no straight answer and I suppose it doesn't matter too much, but I'm actually quite curious as to what sort of reactions I'll get on this one. We release our mixes usually around the 1 hour 15 min mark which typically mimics that of a regular CD which holds around 74 or so mins. For our Christmas/NYE mix I extended it a little to an hour and half and included a lot more tracks in a shorter period of time but so far I'm happy to stick with 75 mins or so, give or take.

Do you stick to a certain time frame or see how it goes and put it out as is? I know some mixes end up 2 hours and beyond, but I personally find that quite often they don't get listened to properly in a lot of cases. Someone once pointed out that he liked a mix we'd put out but wished it had been longer. Since then it got me thinking about this, so I thought i'd throw the question out here as it's something I don't think I've seen discussed before. Probably has but I haven't seen anyone talk about it.

either 40-45 minutes or 1 hour or 1:15, longer than that i have a harder time finishing it because i rarely listen to music for 2 hours straight and I feel like a mix should flow through

do know loads of people that appreciate a longer mix though, you can be much more diverse and just fit in a lot more stuff and make it more like a journey

I personally like anything between 45 and 90 minutes.
That way you can really build up a sort of "relationship" to a mix. Sometimes when its Friday/Saturday night or something I even like to pick up a 3 hour mix for that night but then it takes much longer to build this kind of relationship.

I usually do 30 min mixes to be honest. I feel like if i record a 3hr mix no one will listen to it because its more of a commitment, but everyones got a quick half hour to have a listen lol. Might have to get on a long mix at some point though, been a very long time since ive recorded a 1hr+.

Yeah, I did a 3 hour "best of 2013" mix and didn't bother uploading it. Nobody got time for that. I prefer 2 hours, but 1 seems to be the norm.

I usually listen to complete mixes when I'm on the subway, heading to work, or coming back home. Normally it takes 1 hour (maybe less), so I guess 1 hour would be the perfect time for anyone, maybe.

i like long mixes as much as i like short willys

This exactly, for the same reasons.
