I would like to personally welcome Skynet and ask if there are any jobs going for a meatbag lackie
when will john connor become a target??
the most impressive thing is that they achieved this processing power with something as big as a mail stamp.
I do believe that when using it's full potential, I may even become hostile to us.
hes probably busy going through the phone books "sarah connor"s right now. skynet always struck me as somewhat ms-dos-y for leaving out that particular bit of info. of course, the whole inventing a time machine makes you forgive the little things. one of the things that the terminator series has shown (very much against its will, as it is a particularly daft bunch of films, sadly) is that time is, in fact, linear, and anything you do now will not change stuff for people in the future. it creates an alternate timeline, but then most every event that takes place does, which makes the whole thing pretty null and void. metaphysically the terminator films is alot like eating sand. or sitting on your hands attempting to kick yourself in the kidneys.
anyway, if that there means skynet... darkysidrio, quick question on the singularity, its scheduled for 2035 or something right, but heres what i havent been able to figure out, is it a positive thing, for mankind, or not? because whereas its not atombombs or humans used for batteries, and its a huge leap in technology, it still feels a bit odd. or is that my unwillingness to change talking you reckon.
If I'm not mistaken, the Singularity is scheduled to happen between 2017 and 2035 (based on Ray Kurzweil's predictions and many others). The thing is that we can't know if the resulting Strong AI will act in a positive or negative way towards humanity. Even the people of IBM don't know the full potential of this device they have created (as said in the article), and, you see, it will need a software to work (I don't know which kind of software they'll use, though).
Basically, there are two lines of thought here: One that says that after the Singularity, the AI will help humanity to make things that were deemed "undoable" by humans (like mind-uploading, full integration of the human body with cybernetic prostetic limbs/organs, etc.) and the second that it would simply work in a way to maintain itself, competing with us for resources (therefore wanting humans to be anihillated).
very nicely put together old boy, here is a nytimes article on clam chowder http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/10/magazine/the-clam-chowder-wars.html
now hop in the mixlr thread where we discuss all the most important bits about stuff for the last really really long time in the most amaze balls ever
It could have already started.
I mean.... Mars is inhabited entirely by robots.
and that wizard came from the moon
There is no Dana only Zuul
no its not, i never heard a word about any of this.
there is no dana, only zuul, that much is clear, and of course that wizard came from the moon. they do not have robots there. where did you hear that.
