retro as-1 is the most analog sounding vsti i ever came across mainly cos it reacts to distortion in a great way, heaps of irregular harmonics and analog artifacts.

z3ta is great, i mainly use it for strings and pads. i resample it alot cos the matrix is too grand for my brain to haemorrage out my ear when im on the boulevard

other than that the bog standard fruity ts-404 is haul ass when you know how to freak it

yeah man there is loads, Native Intsruments are wicked, haven't delved too deep into VSTs recently, depsite having Cubase, I've been doni a lot of work on Reason 4 - which is VST uncompatible -boooo! lol

But yeah Kontact is one which I hear about a lot specific to DnB production

Reason combinator is cool (i guess technically not a VST but u can rewire the whole program with Cubase etc as one big VST) for making textured sounds, made a nice reece on there the other day :devilslay

I mainly use z3ta+ lately, made some dirty basslines with that

also use FL's 3xOsc a hell of alot

just started using Massive too, all sounds good so far but gotta learn how to tweak it properly yet

as for non-bass instrument parts, i use soooo many different plugs, im a big fan of Emagics EVP73 electric piano, NI's B4, Nanotron (Mellotron emu), also 3xOsc and z3ta are good for leads
