rely? well wot do u think is?
i know "different strokes for different folks" n all that but it is the first ep in ages where i love each track almost equally. quality ep's are few and far between these days but there have been sum absolute stonkers this year.
my top 3 ep's this year so far are :
shock one - shock one ep
lomax - faith massive ep
audio porn - quarks ep
an ep is such a quality format for releasing dnb (mainly cos its a dance floor music and dance floor based albums tend to fall short due to their lacking in varied and intellectual depth) but when ep's are done correctly i think the benefits outweigh albums entirely.
i wud much rather pay for two plates of sweetness than an album that 2 of the tracks i like and the rest pure filler. 4 tracks is enuff for the collection to have a consistent and themed sound without sounding too repetitive, whilst maintaining each tracks individuality and place within the product as whole. whether it be artist based or a collaborative effort, i think the 4 track format is short, sweet and delivers the bang for buck we all so much search for these days with vinyl on its back legs and plates costing over 7x the amount u can grab digital downloads for. to conclude to this rant / appreciation speech i wud love alot more labels to take their time releasing music and wait till they have a product that is 100% dnb quality before releasing because thats exactly how i look at it from a consumer p.o.v (if i aint raving about it then i aint buyin it.) its all about quality over quantity and 4 tracks of amazingness will sell alot more than 4 separate singles and i certainly hold more affection and appreciation for those type releases in my collection.
rant over
First can i just say, Viper i agree are absolutely smashing it, cant WAIT for the acts of madmen vinyls! But;
I hear what your saying, but i've got all 3 of those EP's and the only one I'd agree with is Faith Massive.
The Quarks EP was on the top of my to buy list for so long...
Turns out, Quarks is a very good tune, but can lose its flare, Asylum was massive and that's what the EP was all about, but The secret is only just above average and Lightspeed was pretty sub-par.
As for the Shock One EP, when i heard it i was amazed, but it wore off slightly, everything lost its glimour after a while, which is probably just my taste, or maybe its the dancefloor vibes he was going for. I think its a phenominal EP but it doesn't do it for me anymore, a good EP is timeless, like Symettry, I've rinsed that every single day since I got it. But like we said, it's all opinion i guess
