I have about £1000 to spend on getting my Mixing hobby back on track. I have always wanted to own some 1210's having only ever owned sound labs and numarks and I have cart loads of vinyl. However, I have hundreds of tunes on MP3and am wondering if i should buy a CD or MP3 set up. I have never used either and am wondering what it's like. Is MP3 and CD mixing the same ultimately and are the vinly decks finished?
Any advice would be appreciated.

I think most people will tell you to go the way of vinyl for sound quality reasons. I can't give you my 2 cents on cd/mp3 mixing becuase I have never used those formats. I own two technics 1210 M5Gs and love em'. Just replaced the needles which will cost you a pretty penny occasionally. Something you dont have to worry about with CDJs. Not sure what you mean by "are the turntables finished?"

I was wondering if it was going the way of all will be done on cd and mp3 eventually. i'm well out of touch. Ideally it would be the nuts to get one of each or two 1210's and a cd deck i suppose? The best tunes i have are on MP3 and i'm desperate to mix them. Thanks for your reply though 'Spliff'.

Oh you meant are tunrtables over & done with? That's a debate in and of itself. It does seem like CDJs are the way of the future sometimes but there are still some really hardcore vinyl enthusiests that will tell you that's the only way to go. I would really like to upgrade to a three channel mixer and add a CDJ myself. If your more recent stuff is all on mp3 then I guess go with the CDJs man.

get 1210's thats your start and try and get 1 cd deck for time b eing.. this will see you through, then you will be able to decide if you need another cdj, cus you will ALWAYS need your technics. i do.

Get some 1210's possibly second hand to save money and a mixer that is capable of midi as well as the usual stuff and a copy of ableton, maybe a specialist controller for it too. There's some new pads that are pretty sick.

Vinyl all day, every day for me.
Although i'm just a bedroom DJ with poor skills atm.
I suppose one day the time will come when MP3 is needed.

cds have been out for 20 years so i don't think vinyl is going anywhere ,

personally i luv records, in my opinion, go the 1210's, you won't regret !

To be honest Turntables will never die as vinyl is always bveing produced. I started on 1210's in the 90's and will still use them to this day. I currently am mixing on CDJ's and you will notice the difference in track quality especially if your downloading your music from p2p sites (not recommended). I would advise as above 2 1210's and a cdj at least that way you could play your up to date music that you have on mp3
