Vinyl-only DJs

i could not give a shit to be honest if a tune is on cd or vinyl , i enjoy mixing and playing either, cd's make things a bit easier and cheeper as you can d/l and burn in 10 mins and exclusives etc are more accesable and ready to go, defo a cost issue though as i doubt the so called vinyl only a-listers are down the record shop spending £100 a week on 12 inches.

that sounds like some sort of male escort advert hahaha

Has nobody told you yet, vinyl is dead brav ! and im not talkin rubbish

Not many dj's use only vinyl now as we are entering a digital age

*It costs alot more for press of vinyl than digital for record labels
*If you order a vinyl you're waiting on delivery where as an mp3 you get it there and then no waiting for the postman which is old skool these days
*Storage vinyl takes up room mp3's dont
*The price difference between vinyl and mp3
*You can burn any mp3's you like to cd where as vinyl you get whats on there im affraid
*Alot of high street retail shops are not selling vinyl anymore which is just another challenge for record sales as most have gone digital

I prefer vinyl myself but we are entering a new era youth today dont want to go to the trouble they want it there and then for as cheap as possible so many teens go for mp3 these days its making it harder for the vinyl era.

Yes and while true cd's just dont have any heart or feeling to them. You dont get that same satisfaction of building up a collection over many years.

The cost issue is definitely one of the most important topics, yeah they do cost a lot more and i could get a lot more music with what i spend on vinyl but in a way i think thats kind of a bad thing. I think it makes you appreciate music that little bit more and actually improves your selection. You realise what records you really do need other than what mp3s you would of brought for the sake of it.

Also i love waiting on a delivary or trecking to a record shop after a long days work. The feeling of waiting for days and then finally hearing that knock on the door which you know could only mean one thing. You answer and there it is, that golden square package smiling at you..

Its the best feeling in the world.

I'm a vinyl man, first and foremost. If it's on vinyl I will get it on vinyl. If not then any other format comes second. The main reason people don't want to buy vinyl now is cos they cannot afford it. The cost of living, more responsibilties etc have contributed to it the cheaper option of MP3 becoming a popular choice. Also cos vinyl can be bulky and heavy. But to be honest you don't really need to carry that much vinyl nowadays for a set. 30-40 records do for me. I carry in a ruck sack so it's like a gym workout, Keeps me fit anyway. In the end it's all about the tunes, not the way it's packaged. I'll play whatever on whatever but vinyl comes 1st

vinyl is heavy but ur only carrying it what, from ur car to the club and back and to and from ur house to the car. i don't drive and i carry my vinyl bag of around 50 tunes about 2 miles every weekend, doesn't phase me one bit

Discogs will never die.. that enough for me

Allelujah. Long as there's sites like that, there will be vinyl always about

One thing that occurred to me that could bring vinyl back is to change the size of it? make all vinyls 7" then it would be cheaper to make and easier to transport, and they wouldn't take up as much room , (could even go down to 5 inch)??? am I right?
as far as I know the reggae people still all use exclusively Vinyl on 7",,,,

12" are too damn big

then u get less space to cut a tune... and with heavy bass music you need more room as bass grooves are wider

Vinyl is gonna die

People have been saying that since cassettes came out
Then CDs came out and people said the same
then mp3s came about and people said the same
And then in 2008 vinyl sales increased by 37%

It's the cost of it, sure vinyl will be made if you wanna pay £7 for a 12" (plus p+p) promos/whitelabels don't get pressed anymore record labels and even more significant cottage industry underground producers dont press records anymore, I don't mean any disrespect you just try to find a shop that sells records in the same numbers as before digital downloads came in, look in nightclubs at djs, vinyl won't die but it's no longer the main way for dj'ing , and thats a fact, so vinyl will eventually die, because people won't press it unless it's some very popular piece of music.
I own a lot of vinyl and since it was more and more difficult to get whitelabels and they starting costing £7 plus postage, I now just play all all my old vinyl, It's become a gimmick.
