Well im buying vinyl every week mate.. But i do think alot of people are turning to the mp3, especially younger new Dj's

yeh im still buying vinyl, have got 1 cd deck but thats only for tunes on mp3 that i maybe missed on vinyl or tunes that i aint 2 bothered about and dont wanna pay vinyl price so i just get for standard mp3 price.

Record geeks rarely need a reason to feel smug, but vinyl hoarders worldwide had reassuring news the other week as Nielsen SoundScan released figures predicting that sales of proper, old-fashioned albums will top 2.8m by the end of 2009. This will mean an increase of almost 1m on last year and the highest annual figure for vinyl sales since SoundScan began tracking them in 1991.
990,000 vinyl albums were sold in 2007, up 15.4% from the 858,000 units bought in 2006
a New England chain of independent music retailers that sells LPs and CDs, says his vinyl sales were up 37% last year, and Patrick Amory, general manager of indie label Matador Records, whose artists include Cat Power and the New Pornographers, claims, "We can't keep up with the demand."
Just while most thought the Vinyl record has been obsolete, apparently Vinyl is actually making a come-back with sales rising a whopping 87.3% between April and June, compared with the same three month period last year. In fact, 7″ Vinyl has now had the best 12 month sales period since 1998. In just the twelve months up to March 31st 2005, 7″ vinyl sales have reached 1.38 million.

wil never turn away from the 1210's and vinyl, if the day comes and mp3s are the norm serato will do nicely!!!

i dont like the idea of djing digitally, okay it turns out to be cheaper..but not my a huge amount, and its alot less fun imo

how you gonna get obscure old jungle tunes on mp3?

I've been using vinyl for 15 years but recently moved on to MP3's. Still fun mixing in my opinion and cheaper buying tunes. Still have my old skool hardcore and jungle on vinyl so will keep my turntables, but the majority of my new stuff is MP3.
i wonder if any one has sum statics for this i think so too but i wonder what the real facts are
There's pros and cons too both sounds qualitys, tinnyness/warmth etc, in a club it's hard to tell if you're honest, unless somebody reloads a CDJ... that's unforgivable. Personally I've never used a CDJ out and i've been mixing wax for about 2/3 years. Nothing against it though, but I must admit I hate seeing a DJ slide that little CD in when he's mixing. just seems so wrong
I'm not an expert, but hasn't it got something to do with the fact of the needle plays the music off of the vinyl into a much better sound quality that a laser on a CDJ just can't produce?!
Plus there's the whole skill factor. IMO vinyl junkies like Andy C, Friction & Hype are a lot more skilled than anyone who uses CDJ's because isn't it harder to pull off some of the crazy mixes these guys do on vinyl than CDJ's?!
Maybe the recession got more pplz into the CDJ world, as buying tunes is a lot cheaper. CDJ's fackin ain't though!!

mixings mixing.. doesnt take any more to ride the pitch on a turntable than it does on a cd deck
i hate these threads because they'll always be someone who thinks that people who dont mix using vinyl are some how cheating.. its just another format!
I personally love vinyl but i can't afford to spend 6 quid plus just for two tunes.. when its rare that I actually really want both of the tunes any way
Therefore i've chosen the best of both Torq (Serato type) I get the munipulation and feel of the vinyl.. but the ability to buy MP3's for a lot cheaper so I can build up my collection quicker
AND for my final ranting point.. it doesnt take away any of the fun what so ever!!!
obviously theres reasons for both.. and we will never agree =)

At the end of the day who cares what you do, very little in sound quality and I dont spend all my time watching the DJ play with his records or cds, going to a rave is about the music.... oh and analog technology is as old as it gets :p

Im a younger new dj bro but im buying vinyl rather than spending my money on serato, i dont think i would get the full love for dj'ing if i started by using serato. (I say serato because thats what i was considering buying!)
