Hey everyone,

I have more noob questions, sorry...

But, how do u guys take care of your records? Since i have no DJ friends i have no idea, i just put them back in their sleave, stacked the proper way......

Do finger prints and all that matter ? should i clean them ?

ALso, on a slightly related topic, does it matter which hand you cue up records on ? like should you use your left hand and your right hand ? or is it cool to just use your favourite hand ?

cheers everyone

I use a cleaning cloth because it stops the records becoming antistatic and it cleans grime of the record too. I try not to get to many fingerpirnts on my records simply cus there expensive. As for the hand thing just use the one thats comfortable, but you can also try and switch it round a bit cus this will make you more ambidextrous incase you want to learn to scratch etc. Hope thats been some help mate.

i got like this record cleaner brush type thing similar this this :

if they look grimey, i just give them a brush with that. simple as. don't really properly them otherwise.

i had some records that were really skanky with them i used zippo lighter fluid and small peace of cloth, but yeah those brushes are usually fine if you see little dust on it

Clean your records, will help with skipping, will increase their value secondhand and won't make other djs cringe when they see your snot on your vinyl.

I heard you can use vodka and a old style shaving brush to clean yr vinyl’s.....bet your never guess where i heard it....LOL

HOW CLEAN IS YOUR HOUSE.....anyone seen it?????

Cool,

Seems like i'll go and get one of those brushes ftw :rslayer:

There was another thread a while back about cleaning records, yeah you can get all sorts of specialist brushes, cloths, cleaning kits etc, but TBH I just give them a wash in luke warm water with a couple of drops of fairy, then dry em off with a cloth (or on the plate rack in the draining board if you got one)

They come up good as new and won't cost you a penny!

Gruv Glide is expensive but it works really well. You only need the tiniest bit to clean a record so it last forever. I wouldn't trust anything else on my records.

It's fine as long as the water isn't too warm - it should just feel slightly warmer than air temp - y'know tepid.

Melting point of vinyl is 80 degrees, so you have to get fairly close to that before it starts to bend and warp the records so with water that's only a little bit warm you've got plenty of headroom before you start to get anywhere near the point where it begins to warp....

91% Ethyl Alcohol + Distilled Water mixed 1 to 3 and a cotton swab.

soak the swab and gently wipe any dust and such out of the grooves.

leaves them nice and clean for months. can make a dull sounding record sound twice as good too!!
