    Is this advisable?

Heard stories about how people have saved proper dollar just turning up and grabbing last minute cancellations or people who are late.

    Anyone done it?

My fear would be getting a cheap ass flight to somewhere exotic, only to get there and not able to get a hotel or indeed afford a hotel.

Is there method in the madness?

    Far flung, no.

    Jabs for diseases/medication etc.

    Major European destinations, yes.

You'll always find at the very least a hostel if hotels are booked up.

I've done it bare times Stanstead > Barcelona & Luton > Amsterdam, got a flight at Luton to Dam once on a random one, was with a mate, was feeling flush, decided we fancied a long weekend there on the friday morning, turned up early, no cancellations on the 1st flight, sat in the bar for a bit, 2nd flight 8 cancellations, ticket cost us £16 a piece return...

Doubt you'd get them that cheap these days, as this was around 1999, but still, greatly reduced.

you don't need jabs or health checks for anywhere in the world for a holiday. its advisory.

turn up with hand luggage. no check in.

accommodation is easy to get.. or be a man and rough it for one night.

as for actually getting the cheap flight.. good luck.. used to happen.. but most under 5hr flights are over booked these days.

UK passport is golden ticket my friend, trust.

yea show up right before a red eye flight is scheduled to depart and it won't be too full so they usually want to fill it.

but for important trips its better to book way in advance.

Best bet, find as many credit cards as you can that offer free rewards. There are tons you can find that will give you 100,000 or more points just for signing up for the card, it really won't have an adverse effect on your credit report or score, and if you get ones that don't have minimum spending requirements you can literally find yourself getting free business or if you're skilled first-class flights to p. much wherevs.

    Cheers.

Pretty certain we did for some parts of South America. Some were just recommended, some were legal requirements you had to show at borders.

So these days im more than likely gonna be sat round all day waiting for a cancellation rather than just expecting one?

Will try it when im next in Liverpool as the airport aint far so could spend a day hanging round with no bother

Yeah man, I always forget you're from this way. Should be good, easier than going to Gatwick and the prices aren't too bad at all, they don't start till next year and are only in the spring/summer months

Yeah it's going ahead, think they start in April with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. And yeah it's a shame really, still will be good for spur of the moment trips. Their on about building an airport in the sea by the island I live on, doubt it would happen though
