Trust monitors or headphones?

Hey guys

A tune I'm making sounds pretty bad through my headphones, but crisp through my monitors. I'm in a pretty big room though. Which should I trust more, or should I go for something that's so-so on both?

Cheers

You mean the mudiness area? hum, interesting.

You should trust both. A good mixing sound crisp on as many as systems possible (monitors, car, home stereo, headphones, crappy earbuds...)

Yeah, mudiness was the word I was gonna use. EQ'd out some of my midrange bass for my snare, which helped a bit on both without losing too much, but there's still a notable difference.

Is your 'big room' acoustically treated in any way? Where are you sat in proximity to your speakers? What headphones are we talking about (nice monitoring ones, or iPhone ear buds?).

I have AKG K702s which I trust over my Adam A5Xs because my room isnt treated at all and i can hear the ringing and extra reflections caused by the room. Until i've treated my room i'll stick with my headphones.

Not acoustically treated in any way, it's my flat room. Speakers (M-Audio BXA5, I know these aren't really that good) are on ear lvl, they're at aprox 45 degrees angle towards me, about 1,5m between them. Headphones are Pioneer HDJ1500, which I also use for DJ'ing.
