On Weird Vibes, it's like 80% about the break on the top. The rest is some resonant sampled/synthesized hits (or just the same hit playing different notes) underneath.
Trying slicing whatever break you like and layer some resonant, but still short drum hits under them. Tbh even enveloped sine waves w/ fast pitch bend can act as a fake bongo when layered with some other hits that provide the midrange/high end crack.
