Already part of the liquid funk explosion a few years prior the duo help steer things toward the disco dnb trend of 2002 with this catchy tune showing versatility of the sound and their long production history. Is that Tainted Love?

Trainspottle no.106 was Source Direct & Instra:Mental - Yo Bitch.

This killer goes straight for the breaks and doesn't relent. Launching their Demonic imprint with hallmark Source Direct quality it also was an early platform for Instra:Mental on their way to future sonic excursions.

Yesterday's Trainspottle was Digital & Spirit - Phantom Force.

An incredible d'n'b sound unleashed in '99 from one of the scene's best teamups. A tune that's very drum & bass, dark almost industrial, but also draws on roots, both soundsystem dub & hardcore rave. Unique & uncompromising. RIP Spirit.

Yesterday's Trainspottle no.111 was Brockie & Ed Solo - Represents.

Kool FM legend Brockie in studio with Ed Solo for one of many collabs to kick off Undiluted Recordings. Two-stepping with big bass and tons of phasing, distorted sounds delighting dancefloors and representing that late-90s jump-up d'n'b sound well.

Yesterday's Trainspottle no.112 was DJ Trace - Coffee (Bonus Beat Mix).

Something a little different on influential label Lucky Spin, Trace journeying deep into drum & bass with sublime drums and stripped down atmosphere. Reflective maybe after partying with the NYC & Toronto rave promoters immortalized on the label.

Yesterday's Trainspottle no.115 was Atomic Dog - All I See.

T-Power flexing funky showing how adept he was across many parts of the jungle/drum & bass spectrum. Early jump-up contribution in the Shy FX/Ebony camp long before the duo would storm the charts together.

Yesterday's Trainspottle was The Sentinel - Dig Deeper.

It's the one like Photek! Another alias in his prolific mid-90s making sure DJs everywhere wouldn't have to dig that deep in their crates to find some quality drum & bass. This one a chill jazzy roller with expertly cut breaks.

Hype, Zinc, & Pascal brought unmatched quality to the Real Vibes LP this tune was on & more. Late-90s True Playaz had a harder, grittier jump-up sound they made their own that destroyed dances everywhere.

You know the one. Setting the production bar high, the second chapter of the RAM trio's statement to the scene boldy said their d'n'b sound was coming for dancefloors everywhere.

Yesterday's Trainspottle was Ed Rush & Optical - Watermelon.

Piece of alien funk perfection that was not only part of Ed Rush & Optical's takeover of d'n'b dancefloors worldwide but also found its way into turn-of-century cross-pollination with hip-hop in DJ Craze's 2000 DMC World Championship winning set.

Yesterday's Trainspottle was London Elektricity - Different Drum.

After refining their jazz-focused sound in the trenches for years this tune & others from the Billion Dollar Gravy LP saw the different drum vision balancing musicality, vocals (the prolific Robert Owens here) and dancefloor liquid funk coming thru in force, heralding an epic era for Hospital Records.

Yesterday's Trainspottle was Voyager - Hypersleep.

Already an integral part of key jungle releases as engineer, on his own Voyager tunes Pete Parsons crafted dreamy/atmospheric d'n'b inspired by & made for Bukem/Fabio Speed sets. This one was delayed until '97 having to re-do the Aliens samples but is a favourite of many.

Yesterday's Trainspottle was Pharoahe Monch - Simon Says (Roni Size & DJ Die Remix).

Another example of hip-hop and drum & bass cross-pollination at the turn of the century as Pharoahe Monch's monster-sampling hit gets a Bristolian d'n'b remix from Roni & Die both who know a little something about combining breakbeat energy with MCing.
