Thought I'd share this since sure some would enjoy. You might have seen it shared around already. Been playing for just over a month and it's been a laugh

Seeing the pop-music intros game Heardle be a viral sensation couldn't help but think, why not one for us? So a fun little side-project was born. Focusing on classic jungle/drum'n'bass/hardcore and other basslines and beats - fancy your trainspotting skills?Play Trainspottle

The whole Heardle-concept is a lot like those ElectronicBeats Blind Tests that had Fabio, Bailey and friends entertaining us a few months back. Of course not trying to make it super difficult with unreleased dubs, but mixing in some lost gems with the big tunes, always nice to hear a classic you've not heard in awhile. Don't hate the selector!

Yesterday's Trainspottle - Grooverider - Charade (vocal mix)



A Grooverider (& Optical?) remix of the vocalist Rachid so smooth, so sexy, so 'liquid funk' before it was really a thing, it could only be an unreleased dubplate for 20 years. Sought after from hearing likes of Fabio play it on Radio 1 it finally came out on Deep Jungle in 2018.

Yesterday's Trainspottle - Roni Size - Phizical



Sounds of out Bristol were all over the early V Recordings catalogue and Roni 'Exer-size'-ing his skills on Phizical is a good example. Upbeat breaks & bass, vocal from India of MAW fame, even a Star Trek🖖 door sample! Classic.

In what was a very productive & creative period for the Bristol heads at Full Cycle, Die effortlessly turns in a roller here with signature style. And the name might have something to do with koalas for the Down Under crew? ;)

Yesterday's Trainspottle was Q-Project - Champion Sound (Bad Company remix)



A really nice remix combining the crowd favourite elements of a classic with some of the future sounds )EIB( was bringing forward at the time. Turn of the century dancefloor dominator. After all these years still can't really fault it, holds up great.

Two days back's Trainspottle was Digital - Deadline



A Dubzilla masterclass from Digital. Simplicity with a musical richness bringing thru vibes of raw soundsystem dub & dancehall with hardcore jungle & cutting edge d'n'b. So effective the horns are heard in sets to this day.

A key RAM duo evolving the label's sounds from its jungle roots into more sci-fi, two-step drum & bass not forgetting a bassline for the dancefloor. Keeping things upfront en route to late 90s scene domination.

Yesterday's Trainspottle - Metal Heads - Terminator



If you were lucky to spot this rotating on a few special DJs' decks in 1992 (ahem, Grooverider, ahem, Randall) you'd first think that's a rather cool logo, then you'd be struck by the sound of timestretched breaks coming out the speakers like nothing you'd ever heard. Original Rufige from Goldie & Freebase.

Peshay really takes the vibe to another territory here expertly crafting breaks with acoustic elements for a smooth balance he would go on to explore deeper on his albums. Drawing a line to the jazz greats.
Hear the man is on the mend from a recent injury too so all the best to a legend!

It was 1998 B.B.C. (Before Bad Company) and these two were flexing some skills mixing jazz and cinematic notes with future d'n'b funk. Maybe taking cues from Metro Recordings contemporaries, the Brothers Quinn, Matrix & Optical.

Yesterday's Trainspottle was Reprazent - Watching Windows (DJ Die Gnarly Vocal mix)



Die gives Reprazent's funky original an extra push towards the dancefloor that fires on all crowd-pleasing cylinders: rolling amens, synth loops & basslines. Onallee vocals or not it's another Bristol killer.

Yesterday's Trainspottle was RAM Trilogy - Titan. (have a go at today's?)



Hard to capture how massive this one is. Layered breaks, morphing bassline, build up into energetic groove. RAM Trilogy follow an already significant Molten Beats LP with a d'n'b anthem that's like a culmination of their decade of evolving sounds.

Immaculate slice of rolling d'n'b like only Calibre could pull off. The smoothest bassline groove to move any dancefloor and Fats' legendary vocal stylings giving it a perfect uplifting touch. 21st century soul.

With a melodic stepper & Aaliyah sample these producers showcased quality d'n'b coming from outside the UK and possibilities of homegrown sounds influential locally in Toronto & North America. Recently remastered for its 25-year.
 
Yesterday's Trainspottle was Trace - Mutant Revisited (try today's)



Easy to get caught up in the names of various versions of these. Mutating (pun intended) from T Power's jazzy original to a techstep blueprint under the influence of Trace & Nico in studio as Rollers Instinct, this third visit has the Reese bassline turned up & amen beats transformed into the "Tramen" with Dom's help. Pivotal.

Formation Records kicked off with an EP from DJ SS showing the way to the future in '91. Breakbeats, pianos, basslines & rave samples... the way was hardcore. Sold thousands on the underground to the "E"xcited massive.

Another early V Recordings cut of Bristolian different drum flavours with Krust taking us on a deep, well-crafted rolling drum & bass journey. V for Vision? Victory? Vital.

Like Fabio's Creative Source, Fellowship's Defunked label was leading the way in defining sounds at the turn of the century. This duo nails the silky smooth disco house textures + danceable drum & bass groove here. Liquid Funk.
