Worth watching every one of them? just the top 10 as I'm too lazy to write them down:

    10 - Rosemary's Baby (1968)
    9 - Suspiria (1977)
    8 - The Omen (1976)
    7 - Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
    6 - [REC] (2007)
    5 - The Exorcist (1973)
    4 - Halloween (1978)
    3 - Ju-On: The Grudge (2003)
    2 - Paranormal Activity (2009)
    1 - The Shining (1980)

Paranormal Activity second place? That already made that list a tad poor...

I beg to differ, mr. Grills.

I've been watching horror movies since I'm 10yo, and after a while you see the same cliché scenes being repeated movie after movie. Paranormal Activity was a recent movie that really got me to cringe and be spooked in a long, long time.

That list, though, I believe isn't in any particular order but is rather a top 50 scariest in it's whole. On these 10 that I've written, I didn't watch only #10 and #9 before. And on the 50 names, I havent watched like 15-20 of them.

*the obviously "I'm gonna be killed" guy is suspicious about something in the empty barn beside the farm he and his friends are trapped because their car stopped working and decides to investigate. Silence while he's walking inside the dilapidated building. A rather annoying and fearful music starts playing. BAM! He's dead.*

How many films have this same exact scene, albeit in different places and methods of killing said character?

Shining deffo shouldn't be #1, not a good film at all really, the wife is whiny as fuck and Jack seems mentally unstable and hates his family from day one whereas in the book its the complete opposite. Rubbish adaptation and defiantly not scary

I think the "The Shining" isn't classified as a pure "Horror" movie, but rather as "Psychological Horror". Same goes to "Suspiria" and "One flew over the Cuckoo's Nest" (which isn't even on the list)

Fair enough Durkadyro, PA was quite atmospheric, especially as a POV horror, but did not really leave me in awe such as the Japanese Ring or the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Does Irreversible count as a horror as well?

More like a thriller than horror, mr. Girls. Although some elements are from the psychological horror subgenre, as the twisted camera angles and the unorthodox storytelling.

None of these are really scary though, are they? There's scenes from David Lynch's stuff that are scarier than all of these movies put together, just weirdness, only thing that would compare is the scene in the Japanese Ring, things that just freak you out a little and leave an etch in your mind, like the bit in Mulholland Drive freakier than any scene in all movies mentioned

Which follow exactly what I said back there: the number of clichés is too damn high! They're not scary because you see them everywhere.

and Karl, you win the interwebz.

I just love horror movies music. Much of the mood of the movie is set by it's OST.
