Tool is an American Grammy Award-winning progressive rock band that was formed in 1990 in Los Angeles, California. Since its inception, the band's line-up has included drummer Danny Carey, guitarist Adam Jones, and vocalist Maynard James Keenan. The current bassist is Justin Chancellor, who has been with the band since 1995. Tool is known to have rigorous touring schedules in support of their albums, they have performed well on charts worldwide, and have sold an estimated 9.25 million records in the US alone.[1]

Tool emerged with a heavy metal sound on their first album Undertow, at a time when the genre was dominated by thrash metal, and later reached the top of the alternative metal movement with the release of their second album Ænima, in 1996. Their efforts to unify musical experimentation, visual arts, and a message of personal evolution continued with their third record Lateralus in 2001 and their most recent album, released in 2006 10,000 Days, gained the band critical acclaim and success around the world. Due to Tool's incorporation of visual arts and relatively long and complex releases, the band is generally described as a style-transcending act and part of progressive rock and art rock. The relationship between the band and today's music industry is ambivalent, at times marked by censorship and the band members' insistence on privacy.

Tool appeared on June 15 as a headliner at the Bonnaroo Music Festival with a guest appearance from Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello on "Lateralus".[70]

Personally they are one of my favourite bands, they arent limited to a certain structure and have many different styles.
they wont just stick to a 4/4 structure, I find their music amazing and its influenced my newer stuff which i wont have complete untill i have got all my shit sorted like new monitors and that as i want it sounding as good as possible.

    what are your views?

Tool are my favourite band. I have everything they have ever done. Just so different. Perfect circle are a side project, with the same singer (maynard james keenan), and they are equally as good in my opinion (got all thir albums too). Maynard has just created another project as well, called puscifer. This shit is like really experimental and different to anything you will ever hear. The puscifer album 'D is for Dubby' i recomended for anybody liking a combo of dark industrial type beats and dub. Tool are fucking immense mate. 'The pot' is my favourite tool song as well, that and 'the patient'. big ups sam for likeing some real good music. :)
there is a lot more to Tools music than a lot of people know- they change time signature throughout their songs, using obscure structures. In one song maynard sings in sylabbles that form a fibbonacci sequence, one of the most beautiful patterns in mathematics. :)
