Has anyone got any ideas about making a tidy sub bass to sit behind a dnb tune.

things i think i know,

1) usuly a sine in most dnb tunes
2) hits between 30 and 50 hrtz .. ish.

but whateva i end up with has a high end buzz in it,
the timbre just isnt right.

all i want is it to be muted, not much tone to it, no high end buzz, no fancy attack, or shaping of any sort, and little to no Fx. just simple clean low end bass!!!!

i thort it would be megga easy to make,
but its not as easy as i thort... maybe im looking to far into it and should try and mask it, but if i do that i feel like a failure!

Ideas People!!!
Mucho apreicated!

Mwahahahahahahahaha!

mate all you need in Albino 3 or 2 or whatever.

Your right. Simple sine wave will suffice.
the idea is to get the right frequencies though.

The sub sits between 40hz>>>about 100hz.

Take a look at some well known dnb tunes on a spectrum
analyzer like Voxengo Span.
you'll notice that most subs peak around 50hz but some glide up to 100hz (of course this depends on the melody) normally between -9db and -6db.
To keep the Sub consistent a bit limiting is needed and that's it.

common mistakes:
1. Not enough sub. It sounds banging in your room but when
play it out there is no SUB! WTF???
Check with an analyzer the sub freqs. There should be a nice
full spectrum between 50hz-100hz
2. Too much sub!
Check with analyzer. Should be hitting -6db max.
Noisia Facade VIP hits at -6db... This is loud!
3. Sub sounds messy. Check that other sounds aren't taking
robbing freqs from the sub. Kicks, Fx, midz should have the
low freqs taken out also check your subs note length.
It can cause problems if too long so if you can shorten
them up or bring in the release on an amp envelop or both.

Hope this helps.

helps a bit,

i mean i already knew most of it,

other than the frqs. i did know them all but i forget!

and i have albino,
and have z3ta, and massive.

i do all of what u said and still get a verry sligt high end buzz.
i loose this if i over load the synths volume and then tweek the overall volume in the main mixer. (but then it distorts, and im not looking for this)

the thing is, it will sound all good when i have drums playing or other noises.

but im talking solo, if its solo then that godamn buzz is still there, giving it a very slight digital feel, which i am not looking for.

I play with res, attack... ect to get rid of click and eliminate MOST of this buzz.

i will load a sample of some simple basses ive been working to try and polish.

it might be my set up, or i might just be looking to hard.

thanks loaaddss tho :D

1. does this buzz show up in the analyzer?
2. Could it be your speakers?
3. what speakers are you using?
4. what program? Cubase?Logic?
5. is there anything else on the channel?
6. is is bussed to group channel with fx?

need to clear up some of this stuff first!

ez

3x osc, sine wave, low end, and a kick in the begining of the note.

Not much more to say other than make your kicks cut where your subs are, everything else has been said.

ok so youve got z3ta.

1. choose the preset integrated fifth, its the last one in the list.

2. turn all the oscillators off.

3. turn all the effects off, i mean everthing, no chorus or nuttin.

4. turn everything off on the synth page.

5. put a single sine wave in osc1

6. boost the eq a bit.

7. add some minor effects as you see fit to give it some mild character.

any more help feel fre to pm me

1. no,
2. maybe,
3. rig speakers, computer speakers, headphones, and moniters.
4. cuebase,
5.nothing else on that channel, 6.may be bussed, but i dont think so
im not up to scratch with the terms "bussing" or "sidechaining", so i just click NO when i see the option to do so.

u can make a decent sub on most synths, if ur worried about a hi end buzz just take it out with eq, heavy compression helps make the whole sound more powerful, another way of doing it is single sine wave > compression > distortion > LP filter (to take the fuzz out)

THANK YOU EVERY1,

yea either all bass has this ring in it,
or all off mine and my mates systems are fucked... which there not.
i think ive looked far too into this one,
.... safe tho!

its all about spending long on a sub-ish sound you feel has potential and just playing around with it for a few hours. advice is very well but it is always best to just experiment and play around in my eyes anyway.

sine wave - i normally use predator or trilogy, both of which you can easily get a fat sub out of.

if you are getting a hi pitched buzz then you are either pushing it too much and it's distorting, in which case ease all ya levels back until everything's nice n crisp. Either that or you are using a shit quality sample with unwanted hi end in, in which case either see step one and just get a big fat n heavy sine out of a synth or as a last resort eq the top end out. huzzah!
