Thick, long, deep and dark bass

I need tips on how to really fill up my half step ethno neuro breaks but I hate compression and layering.

Hmm unfortunately, layering and at least parallel compression is necessary to beef up breaks, bass etc...

I think you should find any reese and then LP it with high resonance and distort then LP again and distort and continue then automate some notch filter then compress heavily in the top end.

You have to do it subtle though because 1% can mess a sound up.
