Wikileaks has obtained and decrypted this previously unreleased video footage from a US Apache helicopter in 2007. It shows Reuters journalist Namir Noor-Eldeen, driver Saeed Chmagh, and several others as the Apache shoots and kills them in a public square in Eastern Baghdad. They are apparently assumed to be insurgents. After the initial shooting, an unarmed group of adults and children in a minivan arrives on the scene and attempts to transport the wounded. They are fired upon as well. The official statement on this incident initially listed all adults as insurgents and claimed the US military did not know how the deaths ocurred. Wikileaks released this video with transcripts and a package of supporting documents on April 5th 2010 on http://collateralmurder.com

    Got sent this earlier...

I think "dark" is the only word I can use that doesn't involve me going off on a rant about the American Army/Government.

Now I know the British Army also make mistekes & our Government blindly fumble their way around cover-ups, but why is it Americans cunt it up so royally?

    World Police.

to be honest though, had i not known they were journo's it does seem as if they could be a threat. especially the guy creeping around the corner with what was thought of as an rpg, and can somewhat understand the confusion.

as much as i can understand the anger of the families that suffered loses, i can understand the fear of any soldiers.

it's tragic that these mistakes happen, especially in a war i can't see ever benefitting anyone. alot of people seem to be risking their lives for nothing.

This is the only bit I have compassion for.

Ok they're in a multi-million $, state-of-the-art machine, but one rpg knocks 'em out & if they don't die from the crash/explosion, they're looking at being murdered on the spot or beheaded on t'internet.

They were gung-ho though, blatantly, just from the language they were using & the expression in the voice, they were fucking itching to pop some skulls...

They could have looked on from a distance & properly confirmed targets, the technology on those cameras is ridiculous.

its really mild, black and white footage from a helicopter turret, low resolution, lots of smoke. the dialouge in relation to what transpires is the scary part i feel.

Heard this on BBC world news first, doesn't seem like the American media want anything to do with it.

Just as their cause was, wikileaks might get into a bit of legal trouble decrypting that video.

the apache could have been a few km away, those cameras are incredibly powerful. the people in the car may not have realised what happened, they may have just seen the smoke, so while it probably was irresponsible to endanger teh children, i dont think they did it realising the danger was still apparent.
also i agree with moskit, their language and tone of voice really suggested they just wanted to fire on the people on the ground.
