Wow, did not see this coming! Love their plugins, last I heard they were getting ready to release Alchemy 2?

96 page thread on KVR... still haven't seen a reason about what happened; just a number of speculations.

i'm don't like the sound from distortion/saturation/etc plugins. in fact, CamelPhat and a couple Nebula libraries is the software-based saturation/etc i like. this sucks. i'm really surprised to hear this news too, i assumed they were doing well financially because of the popularity of CamelPhat and Alchemy.

yeah it seems the leading rumor (and most logical one) was that they were possibly bought out and a nondisclosure agreement would've been part of the contract. it'd make alot of sense if alchemy 2 was close to finished.

this might be wishful thinking but it would make sense for native instruments to buy them out and utilize alchemy 2 code to bring back absynth or introduce a new piece of software to fill that absynth/alchemy niche. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. if it is truly a buyout with a NDA then it might be a long time until we find out what happened and who bought them... IF someone did buy camel audio.

    Apparently Apple bought them out.

Downhill just like Logic then I guess, lol. And it only will work on nazi boxes from now on.

I kid BTW, don't want the Apple fanboys to hunt me down.

I feel like they are definitely bought out by some other company, hence the lack of any additional information as to why they are shutting down. I would either feel it is Apple or it is Native Instruments who has bought them, although somewhere I hope not. Maybe Ableton decided to buy their stuff and start including it in a new Ableton? :D

Are they out of Europe? Can't remember, I know people were throwing around the idea of it being a Internet distribution issue that apparently has been popping up in Europe due to some new law having to do with taxes and internet sales or something...... Can't remember exactly what I read since it's a Europe thing we ain't hearing much about yet in the US. But it will suck if and when it starts effecting internet music distribution of smaller entities. Anything keeping small businesses down and making harder for them to do business just ain't cool.

That's not the case believe me I'm a seller of digital products working from the Netherlands. The new EU VAT laws mean that now as a seller you need to obtain information about the buyers location and then apply the right VAT amount to the purchase, at the end of each quarter you then pay the right amount of tax to each EU country. Before you would be able to apply the VAT amount based on the sellers location and you would only have to pay the tax to your own government. However there is a way to let the government handle the distribution of the tax to each individual EU country. This law has the most effects on smaller webshops since they now suddenly have a lot more work to do while bigger webshops usually already pay somebody to do their administrative work.

Camel Audio is by no means a small company, so I can't grasp that to be the reason they have stopped, I mean if it is the case then why haven't they explained it to their customers? I still believe there is a bigger third party involved.

Yeah, it was just something being thrown around. Didn't know enough about it to know exactly how critical it would affect a digital online software distribution site. I'm assuming in the next month's were will know the answer. I'm surprised there hasn't been a leak from within yet or friend of friend kinda thing. They might have some kinda hush order..... So maybe a buyout is it. I hope if it was a buy out, the guys at camel are cool with it and that the original developers would still have a job and majority say in the future products and whatnot. Maybe the products will increase in quality in the long run.

Who would buy them though.... I don't think NI even needs them. The idea of ableton picking it up and including sick plugs into live would be a dream come true. Well, for ableton users like me.

Camelphat has really started to grow on me recently since using it over the last 6 months or so. Really has surprised me like many others and is a big shame. Camel Space is another cool one for effects and I've seen and played around with the interesting Alchemy which was used on one of our newest DnB tracks. I love the randomise feature they seem to include on all their stuff I've used so far.
