So the guy that done the actual drumming part is dead. Why does this guy get to have all the money. Did the drummer not leave a family that the money could go to? 50/50 split. I think it's gross that he's getting all of it.

I mean look at Forrest Gump. He was a fucking retard but he still made sure Bubba's family got their half.

Don't get me wrong, I'll donate just for the sheer effect the Amen break has had on me and the good times I've had because of it, but I feel a bit uneasy that it all goes to him.

He was credited for writing the arrangement. Worth noting that Amen Brother is actually a cover of two Impressions/Curtis Mayfield songs - the melodies of which are fused together.

Richard Spenser is not only the copyright holder of Amen Brother, he was a member of the original lineup of the Winstons, wrote the A-side of the single, arranged the B-side and unwittingly released a recording that, when sampled, basically galvanised Hip Hop, Hardcore and Jungle - and in the absence of any legal mechanisms for him and the other surviving band members to recoup any money for their contribution I think this is a beautiful gesture. The information on the ID posted above all checks out with his Wiki entry, and IMO anyone who ever made a few bob sampling his music owes him a debt of honour and at the very least the price of a few pints.

He seems to have had a long and busy career post-Winstons - a phd in Political Science and labour relations, ordainment as a minister, and he can probably retire happily on that, but if you made a few quid off his back then I think it is only fair to chuck something his way.
