Worse thing has happened to me... my 1tb external has decided to corrupt itself back to RAW data. It was my main back up drive. Had all my projects, samples everything on it. Anyone in the know how of able to fix the indexing/mbr. Tried a couple of programs to try and recover but didn't have any luck. Can't believe the great hdd crash of '13 has happened to me.

Yeah figured as much, Well it's not coming up as a recognized file system, Just as RAW. I have tried accessing through a live linux cd etc and the data etc is still there. Just a bastard

Good call backing up now so you can start experimenting on the one of them without worrying about consequence. Keep us up to date, and let me know if any of those apps deliver success to you. Good luck, there's nothing at gutting as finding out your hdd has been corrupted...we've all been there before.

Cheers.

Well.. I am deeply saddened to announce at that a TB of music, porn, samples have disappeared into the the black hole of hdd corruption. Such a vapid beast. I mean, yes I can get my music collection back, porn.. well that too. But the unique collection of samples I had AND previous project files etc. Ahh well. *pours a lil liquor out for his lost homie*

I'll drink to your HDD later tonight. But for now, think about it this way; you've got a baggage free way to re-invent your workflow. I myself have started this thing where when I start a track by going to freesound.org or looperman.com or universal-soundbank, and grab a fresh loop or a sample with some notes to it, then chuck it in my DAW and get some basic groove goin ASAP. Then keep rolling until the track is finished or I just lose motivation/interest in it and when one of those happens, delete it lol.

Im in the same predicament but mine is a hardware failure... on all of my HD's! I still have them and am just sitting on them as I have no idea who I can send it to? I don't wanna risk it and they try fix them then give up and wipe em!
I haven't really let go as I know somehow in the future I will be able to recover them, but its like 4 HD's all with the same mechanical failure so yea....FUCK seagate!

Sometimes its a blessing in disguise though. I kept going back to the same folder of samples and doing the same presets and techniques. Its a massive ball ache and ive 'lost' a lot of work but it's kinda helped me in a way??

Think I'm gonna start backing up my files on the cloud just for safe-keeping...tho that may have its own problems. Their equipment's better than mine tho.

I feel for you OP; wish there was some advice I could give but w/o knowing any more details it'd be for naught. I'd take some of the other poster's advice and try those programs on the one HDD you want to use to test the results on, and go from there. Just make sure you don't corrupt your OS along the way.

omg, I am having the worst month with data, laptop hdd decided to shit itself the other day.. I am not having a good run

Shit man, you can't seem to escape the gray cloud that is following you around. :( Sorry for your continued issues. How old was the hdd and was it the stock drive that came with the computer?

My main backup decided to stop working the other week, now it only shows up in usb 3.0 ports, which i don't have. Been copying it when ever i get a chance to use a mates.
Shenanigans!
