    Hi chaps

Ive never owned any DJ equipment before in my life and i wanna get some decks, mixers, speakers, the lot. i reckon i would enjoy it alot.
So, just wondering whether anyone would have some useful advice on where to start and recommend any DJ equipment thats perfect for a beginner like me?? not lookin for anything too pricey, but also dont want some dirt cheap piece of shit that will fuck up easily :)

Been looking on www.decks.co.uk but theres way too much stuff on there, i dont know where to start!

    Thanks in advance

you make the biggest choice of your life

    vinyl or mp3?
obviously you can way up the cons and pros, choose which path to follow (or both)
    then we may help.

    ok.

    whats your price range?
and what exactly are you gonna buy?

    decks
    mixer
    speakers (active or passive)

elaborate slightly and give us a budget.

price range in total im hoping to not really go over 600, but then im a little clueless on how much this equipment costs. anything else you would like to know?

thanks for your interest/help by the way mate. anyway you can help i would much appreciate it. :)

ok cool, 600 isnt a too bad of budget but obviously your not gonna get the dogs bollcokc. (then again you don't want cheap shite thats only gonna last 12-18 months either.)

    Ill have a littlle look.

One pointer though, would you maybe consider some of the equipment second hand? This could save you money / get you better gear for your money. something to think about.

yeah i would definately consider second hand but as long its not dodgy, like ive heard the mixers can get abit worn after a while and stuff like that. brand new preferred tho of course. yeh 600 is my limit but hopefully i wont have to hit that.

edit: im liking the look of Genesis decks.

Theres no point starting with Mp3 then moving on to vinyl.
You end up spending more money in the long run.
Just save up and get some technics, you will end up buying a pair at some point so your better off being patient and getting a pair.

Also mixing with vinyl is so much more fun and fulfilling!

get 2x technics 1210mkII and a small pioneer mixer all together (maybe used) 700-800 euro.
try mixing, and if you feel like, buy later the serato scratch system (like final scratch) 300 € for playing timecode vinyls on the decks.(off course you need a laptop, but who doesn't own one nowadays ;))

just save the money to get it.... with this you can start and end a dj career ;)

....don't waste the money for getting some cheap equipemt first.....you will quickly reach a level where you want a better one.....believe me. i did that mistake and wasted much money in 1993 (i am talking about the decks and the mixer, not final scracth ;))
