Great little article from ModeAudio on the right way to go about starting production. It's short, its sweet, and hits the right spots. I know there are a few newbies hanging around that should read this, and even if you past the stage of starting else it covers a lot of things you probably missed.

Good read. wish i ad read something of the sorts when i was first buying my gear. i did the typical buy a bunch of shit i didn't need route and sell it all later at a huge loss only to have to buy other things that were actually essentials. keep it simple

Lovely read guys. Didn't know that an audio interface is essential. What does it do in layman terms? I only use the soundcard in built in my laptop.

Provide external ins and outs, TRS and XLR compatibility, "better sound quality", higher gain, knobs

do you have good monitors or pc speakers? if you have monitors, they will come to life with a soundcard

haha, laptop speaker dont count. You should be able to find a cheap one for about 75 quid somewhere. Behringer make that cheap shit, does the job.
