Hi all,

I'm wondering if people could point me in the right direction to find tracks/artists who sound like the Brookes Brothers on their Essential Mix of 2011. Pretty much the first, say 30 mins of it is awesome IMO and I'd like to find out other tunes that sound like this!

I've tried Netsky - not a huge fan tbh. Sounds Euro
Andy C - yes but not quite Brookes Brothers

the best I've found so far are random mixes on YouTube but there must be something more solid than that? What type of DnB would you consider Brookes Brothers to be anyway?

Please help and point me in the right direction!

Cheers in advance :)

gotta love the noob first thread. i would try out high contrast, logistics, nu tone, s.p.y, culture shock, danny byrd

Euro? WTF.

Yeah. The guy is from Belgium. There's always a notable difference whenever artists come from mainland Europe vs the UK. It's less clean, dark and the synth has that euro trancy sound (nothing in the brookes brothers essential mix has that).

Also I appreciate the n00b post... Yeah you must get tons of these posts. Sorry. I did check the sticky posts though and there wasn't anything in there about the sound I'm after.

Jungle fever and protect audio I will deffo check out those guys. Thanks

Also what type of dnb would you consider Brooke's brothers to be?

care to elaborate? I am new and I'm learning.. that's just my perception of things at this stage. Give me a new one if you have one..

Don't worry man, people here are super-negative towards people just getting into dnb. Some kind of elitist bullshit... 'I don't like the sound you're looking for so I'll just do my best to make you feel bad'.

People will respect you more for not liking Netsky though, most people are more into the techy/minimal/dark side of dnb on here. :)

Still, take the advice of some of the people above. Those labels and artists will be worth checking.

Mate..I don´t want to sound like a dick but this is wrong on so many levels. I could post literally hundreds of tunes from non-UK artists that do not fulfill your insights. Also, trance does exist in the UK. Netsky doesn´t sound anything like trance.

Are you from the US? Because I have never heard or read the term euro trance.

cheers fuuz3r that list of essential mixes was super helpful!! Especially High Contrast, London Elecktricity and Subfocus. After a bit of research I'm finding that the sound I like is actually a little bit older.. 2005 to 2010-ish. The newer stuff I think is a little different (maybe more dubstep-esque...? is that a fair assessment?).

Re what I meant about the Euro sound... there is definitely a theme to electronic music producers that come from mianland Europe compared to the UK. Not always but there's, like i said, generally a common theme (I find anyway).
The sound is more synthy and can become 'cheesy' in some instances (think the pop synthy sound that comes from something like 'Special D' :| ). I found Netsky when compared to Brookes Brothers to have more of a Euro Synthy sound and hence sometimes a little cheesy tbh.

Btw to the other posters, I was born in Australia but lived in London for 2 years a few years ago and lived in the US and Canada for 2 years after that. A lot of people know what you're talking about when you say 'Euro Trance'.. maybe not in Europe obviously but definitely in US/Canada/Australia.

i wasn't being negative. i just found it quite amusing that you pidgeonhole dnb music and sound by producers country of origin. like for instance you found mainland europe producers sound to be "less clean, dark and synth having that euro trancy sound" ...have you got any reasonable comparison to give us to actually support this theory?
