Finish copy. On the third sampler for the ‘Way Of The Samurai’ LP / CD, we team up New Zealand ex pat Mosus of Liquid V / V Recordings with CIA recording artist Zero T, and feature one of the strongest tunes to date from Nottingham star Soul Intent.
A/ SOUL INTENT – ‘HYSTERIA’
Samurai Music loves Soul Intent!! We can’t get enough of this Nottingham wunderkinds tunes and in fact ‘Hysteria’ was the first tuned signed for the ‘Way Of The Samurai’ LP and the initial inspiration for the compilation. An organic drum sound is a constant feature of Soul Intents tunes, and ‘Hysteria’s percussion is another example of his ability to use older sampled drums and make them sound incredible. A familiar vocal (sung here by Wellingtons Tess), and string provide the vibe for the tune until the breakdown where a flute (of all things) precedes the Dillanja- esque riff and bass stomp drop . Experiencing more wind backs than a broken watch, this tune has been the source of many ‘what the fuck is that’ questions for some time now. B/ MOSUS & ZERO T – ‘CARBON BLACK’
Currently riding a wave of attention from their massive hit on Marcus Intalex’ Soul:r label with ‘Monarch’, we unleash the long awaited ‘Carbon Black’ from this duo. An obvious studio synergy was evident from the first pairings of these two producers with ‘Carbon Black’ in fact being one of their first tunes together. Awkward but extremely strong stepping drums are the key feature of this tunes intro dropping hints of its immense bassline as it progresses. The bassline wind out on this tune has caight many by surprise with its twisted morphing pattern, and you can guarantee dancefloors will latch into its unique approach every time.
