Sony PlayStation 3 network errors leave frustrated gamers locked out of their consoles

[IMG] Sony said the glitch only appears to be affecting the original PlayStation 3 and not the new slimline version

PlayStation 3 owners around the world have been hit by a software problem that crashes their games consoles.
Sony said it was working hard to identify and resolve the problem, which has left thousands of gamers unable to play their favourite games or access the online service called PlayStation Network.
Industry insiders say the errors are most likely caused by a calendar bug. Many PS3 owners reported that their console clock had reset to Dec 31, 1999 or Jan 1, 2000, when it was supposed to switch from February to March.
The fault only appears to have affected older PS3 consoles, rather than the more recent, ’slim’ versions.
Gamers said they were unable to access the PlayStation Network and were presented with an error message that read: '8001050F – Hardware failure. Cannot update Firmware or connect to internet'.
Players use the free network to experience online games, chat to friends and family around the world and surf the web.

Other users complained that trophy and achievement data, which is built up as the player improves, had been deleted.

Sony said they were working 'flat out' to fix the glitch.
A spokesman said: 'We have found out that some users are experiencing a network connection failure when signing on to PlayStation Network.
'We are currently looking in to the issue to identify the cause of this network connection failure. We appreciate your understanding and continued support.'
Their latest Twitter posting said: 'We're narrowing down the issue and continue to work to restore service to all.'

Which model are you running Sirus? Heavy rain is sick btw. Me and the missus spent most of this weekend playing it. Probably the most emotionally deep game to date.

yeah thats the issue Sirus is on about, everyone cant play on the PSN, some people cant even play games. But Sony says its not a hardware issue, something to do with PSN and they hope to fix it soon.

    80gb.

i watched some clips for HR on the weekend and was instantly impressed with the style of the game. my brother said he rinsed it on friday and was amazed by how good it is. said he felt more emotional attachment to the game play, as every decision means more than the likes of big shoot em ups which can seem a little souless.

hopefully it won't take these plums too long to sort out the problem.
