My contract is untill September 11th, and at the moment it looks highly unlikely that there's going to be a budget to keep me on. I'm the least qualified in my team (the rest are Senior Translators) so it mean that it would be me who goes first.

My boss said she's trying her hardest to link something (which I believe 100%) but it's not looking likely.

So I could be saying goodbye to my brillaint wage, flexi time that I can abuse and two hour lunches :(

Really didn't think this recession would affect me.

    Bad times :(

    I loved my job.

Mainly because I was the highest earning 20 year old I knew of :)

It's not the money side of it.... I got a shitload saved up. Ain't worried about that.

I just loved my job and was really working towards a solid career there. I was going to be doing sick by the time I was 35 basically. I could have retired at like 58 or so.

Plus I'm not sure what happend to my pension I've been paying for the past 3 years.

Nah, I'll let it ride out see what happens.

I could afford to be out of a job and still go out and stuff for a good 6 months with the money I've got saved up.

Brofmaster, (and anyone else seeking recession advice)

You can still sort it. Schedule a meeting with the highest ranking person you can manage without pissing people off.

Speak to them and let them know you'll be willing to make concessions. I recommend:

Take a pay cut - last I heard you were on mega bucks. I'm sure you could lose £10k and still be in the game.

Change your working hours - At our place some people have started working a 4 day week and lost 1/5th their pay.

People want to keep cheaper staff. These top boys are getting serious cash. It'll be more effective for them to lose one of them and work you harder.

Show them you want to keep your job and they'll try and keep you. If you make the first move they will respect it.

It seems shit now but if you can keep your job now, no matter how shit the working conditions, you'll be in such a strong position when this recession ends.

    Chin up.

    I would, but they can't.

We got a Job Evaluation proccess, where they work out what you should be getting and you can't go any lower. My job went up £5k because of it haha, so by law I can't get any less cash. Which makes a pay cut no option.

The joys of working for the government! I enjoyed my time as a civil servant but it was just so boring dealing with people's disability benefit claims.

2 hour lunches b2b spliff breaks were the norm back then and even a g of sniff on a friday. :D

I'm sure this will be a bitter financial pill for you to swallow Brof.
