O.k. I'd like my kicks to punch through the mix more. They got lost in the bassline. Now I could have eq'd them before I sequenced them in the drum track, but that's too late, and I'd like to know if anyone else does this or what they think about it. I'm creating a group channel for the bass tracks and then sending them to this channel. Then I "side-chain compress" this track. I then go to my drum track and send to "group channel." I'm using the drum track to signal the compression, so that the bass cuts back abit each time for the kick to come through. Now I've seen this done more with strings/pads but what about for basslines? What is the general consensus?

It's something I just started reading about in the different forums and watching on youtube. It makes me look at what I've done so far and say "I have so much to learn!"

Its always a good idea to learn these techniques. No matter who or who does not use them. They're great to have in the tool box .
