I don't want to sound like a complete idiot but what is a semitone??
I know that you have to increase or decrease semitones for a vocal track to be in key but how much is a semitone??

Try to use simple language as possible because I've been searching on the web and I couldn't understand shit. :(

Thanks :)

A semitone is the smallest interval between two notes.. for example C and C minor or E and F. Most pitch plugins count in semitones and 12 semitones would be an octave below your original note.

Lets say you have a vocal track thats in C but you are making a track in E. Then you would have to increase the pitch of the vocal by 5 semitones. Its just to count the steps on a piano and you will know how many "semitones" you need to transpose your audio file, of course you would have to know what the root pitch of the vocal is then ^^

Hope I made any sense

Thanks I think I got the idea. So basically 1 note is 1 semitone?? example from C to E you have 5 notes (C, Cmin, D, Dmin, E) so you shift the clip by 5 semitones. Have I got it right?

Thanks alot JimpaDirt :)

C Sharp - C - C Flat ( = B)

yep, thats it, one semitone = one note on a piano, an octave = 12 semitones
