I'm a big fan of the old jungle tekno stuff and a lot of 1993 tunes that are way too slow to mix with today's tracks.
A hell of a lot of Dylan, Loxy, Ink, Damage and co's tunes have big parts ripped from these tracks anyway so it's like mixing their stuff in.
(Not slating these guys tho, their stuff still rocks!)

hmm, a d&b turntablist forum, this is all good!

if anyone's interested, the best and most comprehensive list of skratch techniques is at www.asisphonics.net - go to The Ever

check out alias' delayed 2 click flare, v. nice technique that would work fucking brilliantly with d&b if I could get the bastard down (I'm lazy and don't practice enough)

peace to all the (good) d&b skratchers out there

DJ's Of The Seventies

Larry Levan
had an impeccable sense of style and taste and his landmark work in the studio led to the first whole concept album where the DJ / Remixer gets top billing over the original artist. Quite a number of todays most successful producers and DJ's credit their first exposure to larry's music at The Garage as a moment that changed their lives forever and inspired their whoel careers.

Kool Herc
was the first DJ to buy two copies of the same record for just a 15 second break in the middle. By mixing bakc and forth between the two copies he was able to indefinately extend the break. In so doing, Herc effectively deconstructed and reconstructed so-called found sound, using the turntable as a musical instrument.

Ron Hardy
pioneered a different sound when he took over the decks at The Music Box in Chicago. Hardy's mix of disco, european electronica, industrial and alternative sounds was spiced with tape edits which he would manipulate and pause by hand.

Francis Grasso
Invented the technique of slip cueing: holding the disc with his thumb whilst the turntable whirled beneath, insulated by a felt pad. He'd locate with an earphone the best spot to make the splice, then release the next side precidely on the beat... his tour de force was playing two record simultaniousley for as long as 2 minutes at a stretch.

Being honest here... Nah not for a few years. I almost got a pair last year but went for 1210's MK2 instead.

:) heh, if u aint played on um for a few years u probably aint had a rip on some pdx2000's. I do admit that earlier vestax tables were behind the 1210's. Not now though ;)

Yah, i got the STR8-80's and they have been great for me. I was gonna buy the 1200's at first, but i didn't wanna buy the top notch ones just in case i didn't like spinnin'. But the str8-80's are pretty descent. It's just when i use my homey's 1200's the pitch is more sensitive and i gotta get used to em'. the str8-80's need more torque, that's the only problem i got wid dem.

what movie is that quote from?

One.
