Routing MIDI Controller Through Audio Interface

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this, I am trying to route my M-Audio Axiom 61 keyboard thorugh my Alesis IO2 audio interface using the MIDI Connections.

I've bought two MIDI cables and plug them into the keyboard and interface, remembering to connect MIDI In to MIDI Out etc.

And on the interface a red light comes on when I press a key saying MIDI, but I can't get either Reason or Ableton Live to find the keyboard.

Can anyone who knows or has done similar give me a hand.

I dont think they can 'find it' as in finding a new device, since it's MIDI cabled. USB would work like that. Not sure tho, as I've never connected my KB with a midi cable.

Do those programs have a MIDI in light? If it's blinking, you have to set your software on the same midi channel as your keyboard and probably also arm the track you want to control. That's all I can say, Reason and Live not really my ballgame.

And another thing, you usually have to set that particular midi port active somewhere from the preferences. It wouldn't show up as "M-Audio Axiom 61" but rather "M-Audio IO2 MIDI port" or something.
