Has anyone got a new card with the "security chip" in it? I did, and i cut it up, and closed my account.

I will be doing this from here on out, i have some reservations about carrying a radio frequency transmitter everywhere i go.

I watched a few videos on this chip, and it sounds like its easier to hack then a swipe & sign card. Anyway you decide for yourself, in the mean time i will be destroying any RFID's that are assigned to me

what about your 'reservations' for carrying your 'cell' phone around.. it also acts as a transmitter and your location can be triangulated wherever you are??

True but your mobile phone isn't extricably linked to your other personal/banking info unless you 're in a contract.

What's the excuse for the banks putting this in their cards?

    Convenience for who?

Besides i can turn my phone off, you can't turn of the RFID in your wallet.

Once again a great intrusion of privacy masquerading as security, this is exactly what the fuckin Nazi's did.

Lets really think about how much "security" we need, and who this security is really for?

for consumers who would rather wave there card over a reader than actually swipe it. The advantages (if any) Toll Booths, Stores etc...

wave a magnet over it. destroys it everytime

you may need to lay off the green deadaelus, maybe the banks are trying to make life more convenient, in your paranoid-dilluded conspiricy theories did you happen to think that the government might not give a shit what petty crimes you may be committing, if it was actually being used for a greater purpose.. it would be to stop terrorism or something, they can record all the crimes they want etc but there simply aren't enough resources to arrest everybody.
If you want to be paranoid.. be paranoid about the fact that everytime you leave the house you're caught on camera nearly everywhere you go, your messages, calls and contacts are all logged.. even MSN, AIM etc will all be screened for keywords.. who knows who's reading your conversations.. i don't think a little chip is anything to worry about!
