remix / sample

lol, who knows...kind of thing you could spend 10 pages debating and not come up with a definite answer

and some official remixes don't sound anything like the originals

Sort of the same situation as the Ship of Theseus paradox.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_of_Theseus

The Ship of Theseus, also known as Theseus' paradox, or various variants, notably grandfather's axe and (in the UK) Trigger's Broom (based upon the BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses) is a paradox that raises the question of whether an object which has had all its component parts replaced remains fundamentally the same object.

^ interesting. don't expect to see that kind of thing on here lol

my 2c... just cause a tune samples another tune, doesn't mean it's a remix of that tune

e.g. Nas - Life's A Bitch samples Gap Band - Yearning For Your Love. but I doubt anyone would try and say Life's a Bitch was a remix of Yearning for Your Love

My own definition of a remix is a song that retains all of the best parts of a song but adds its own special twist that makes it so good

Personally I don't like drum and bass remix's of other drum & bass songs, unless the original was terrible and the remix makes it amazing. I prefer remixes of songs into a different genre of music, as it makes it slightly more unique

Take this one. It keeps all of the best bits from the original song but adds its own little thing to it
