Releasing a bootleg

I've done a remix of an Ice Cube track and I was thinkin of seein if the labels may be interested. Basically, my question is; just say if the track was to get a release, would it have to be under a bootleg label where no credit is given to me (the artist) such as cut & run. Or are there any labels where you can release a track like this and also be given credit??

Yeah, what he said. Anybody?

You won't be named on record websties etc. I think it's not the best way to get into the business. Names aren't attached to the bootlegs for many months afterwards and even then it's by word of mouth.

e.g.
Snow Patrol - Open Your Eyes (Marky & Bungle)
Michael Jackson - Human Nature (Makoto & Specialist)

I might be wrong, but there's my two cents.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It depends on a lot of things,

larger labels won't touch it, as I'm sure Ice Cube's label has a pack of lawyers that would tear you apart for not clearing the samples.

Smaller labels may risk it but don't expect your name to be on it, or you could just use a alias, then deny that it is really you

Most bootlegs are unknown remixers for legal reasons, especially if it's some corporate american superstar but if it goes down well and creates a buzz, people will find out who made it.

I have a few bootlegs in my collection, as it gives people who don't know any dnb songs a reason to dance when your playing to a non dnb audience

And with most of my bootlegs I could find out who did them, some said the remixer on rolldabeats or discogs under the catalogue number but others I had to do a bit of hunting for, and others I simply couldn't find

Eg.

Usher - Yeah (Mickey Finn Bootleg Dub)
Mariah Carey - It's Like That (Wickaman Remix)
Stevie Wonder - For Your Love (Greenfly Remix)

But others I could find such as the Urban Legendz series with remixes of Obie Trice, Beyonce & Sean Paul tunes

Note the difference, both bootlegs but lot of difference in the information know about the two releases:

Lupe Fiasco - Kick Push (Heist Remix)

Nas - Oochie Wally (Unkown Remix)

yeah white label all the way...
labels arent really that interested
with small fry... chances are if the
tune wasnt that big no one would care...
people get away with ripped samples
in releases all the time...

but if the tune moved to many units you
can be sure they would be onto it for
the biggest slice of the pie...

not really worth the risk...
especially when you could always just
write your won music...

much more rewarding...

Get in contact with Nu Urban and send them your track and if its good enough then who knows. Are you gonna post up a clip of this remix so we can see what its like??
