Ever since I got into dnb, releases dates for digital have pretty much always been Mondays with a couple of labels (RAM, Shogun) releasing on Sundays.

Today (a Friday) I see Shogun, Metalheadz, RAM, Dispatch and Spearhead all released something (at least on Juno). Has something changed?

It's the music industry as a whole changing to a Friday release worldwide. Before this week, European releases were mostly Monday and American releases (for the same music) were on Tuesday. Why they changed to Friday instead of picking either Monday or Tuesday, I don't know

It's a worldwide change for all labels (at least I'm told this).

Really? Afaik you can release your music whenever you want or is there any store that pushes you to release on a Friday? (There ain't to my knowledge). Friday was just something new majors came up to streamline and now everyone in the d&b scene seems to adapt it seems.

Friday works better for me tbh. No more crying "why the fuck this had to be released on Monday when I have this Friday/Saturday gig?" :teeth:

Usually was on Monday to save us all from the Monday Blues :D
but it makes more sense for people playing out or digging crazy to get it on the w-e.

TGIF is dead now it's TGIRD (No "S" should be inserted here)

Far better to have the new tunes on a Monday to practice playing them before your gigs the following weekend I would have thought....

They said in the news Friday is good for artists performing as an example, as they could be doing a gig Friday night and performing what is the new number one that night (DJ's and the actual artist I guess)!

Also it's to counteract piracy to some degree as staggered releases across different continents made people who had to wait more likely to download it illegally.

I like the idea of everybody getting everything the same day. I'll miss my Monday morning ritual but in all honesty I'll just do it on a Friday now instead.

It was mentioned on Radio 1 as it was a big change for the chart show as well (which has now moved to Friday). It's not necessarily big news but it's a worldwide change to something that's been the same since before I was born no doubt.

The GLOBAL release date for ALL music is now Friday. Understandably independents can release as and when they want but anything that was a Monday (Sunday) here and Tuesday stateside is now Friday across the world.

Thats not correct. General store release dates worldwide now shifted to Fridays, we can however release via our store / own platforms when we want to.

Wait a sec, you're talking about the physical release? I learned that has shifted to Friday on all stores, you are right. We're still able to release digital on Monday tho (or whenever we want)

I'd imagine people will generally shift to be uniformed. If 99% of all releases are now a Friday you'd surely fall in line just for ease?

I don't know really, this never happened so far. Our distro told us we should keep Monday for the time beeing, solely because if there's an error or problem they might not be able to react on time as Sat/Sun is off which I totally get. We'll see :)
