recording tapes to computer

how do i do this so i could make it a mp3?
iv tried using a headphone to headphone lead and recording it to cool edit, but it just comes through too quiet.

There should be a function in cool edit that alows you to normalise your wav. This should boost the volume.

dunno if u've solved ur volume problem. but a handy trick in cool edit is to hard limit the audio! basically this makes it as loud as it can be without distorting the sound.

go to effects, amplitude, amplify... then hard limiting. click on gather statistics to analyse the audio and then confirm.
