Saw a similar topic on another forum and thought it was useful to expand peoples musical horizons, as everyone in DNB comes from different musical background, so add your own recommendations, here's some of my thoughts:

Anything by Ludovico Einaudi
You may turn your nose up at classical piano, but anyone who’s seen This Is England will know how powerful this man’s compositions are

DJ Shadow – Entroducing...
For the few people in this world that don’t know, this albums in the Guinness book of records for the first album made completely from samples, this is a must listen

Mogwai – Happy Songs For Happy People
A staggeringly beautiful collection of post –rock instrumentals and soundscapes

MF Doom – Doomsday
Hip hop at it's best

Hans Zimmer – Gladiator Soundtrack
A huge range of sounds and ideas turns this score into epic stuff

Anything by King Tubby
One of the originators and true masters of the art of the dub

Jean-Michel Jarre– Oxygene I-VI
Maybe pretentious, but no getting away from the expert use of synthesis

Rage Against The Machine – Rage Against The Machine
Top notch production and groundbreaking use of guitar and fx by Tom Morello, coupled with Zach De La Rocha’s raw passion and political message, make this album a classic.

London Posse – Gangster Chronicles
True pioneers of UK Hip Hop

Goldie – Timeless
Need I say more?

Daft Punk – Homework
Way ahead of their time in the electronic music world

Linkin Park – Hybrid Theory
Love them or hate them, the production on this album is world class

Cypress Hill – Cypress Hill IV
Hard to pick a single Cypress Hill album, but this is definitely one of the best

Aphex Twin – Selected Ambient Works II
Possibly the best showcase of Richard David James’ talent

Others to check out in my opinion: Roots Manuva, Gorillaz, Erik B & Rakim, Kraftwerk, Asian Dub Foundation, Cinematic Orchestra, Bjork, James Brown etc...

here are what have inspired me the most, both with production and playing bass

Hip Hop

Gza - Liquid Swords
J Dilla - The Shining
Roots Manuva - Run Come Save Me
Phi Life Cypher - Millenium Metaphors

RnB

D'Angelo - Brown Sugar
D'Angelo - Voodoo

Trip Hop

DJ Shadow - Endtroducing/The Private Press
Massive Attack - Protection/Mezzanine/100th Window
Thievery Corporation -The Mirror Conspiracy/The Richest Man In Babylon

Electronica

Trentemoller, anything he does!
Plaid - Double Figure
Modeselektor - Happy Birthday
Aphex Twin - Drukqs
Boards Of Canada - Music Has The Right To Children
Squarepusher - Do You Know Squarepusher
Amen Andrews - anything he does

Chiptune

Sabrepulse - Nintendokore

Metal

One Minute silence - One Lie Fits All/Buy Now Saved Later
Tool - Aenima/Lateralus
Rage Against The Machine - self titled

Other/Rock

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik
Sigur Ros - anything they do
Biffy Clyro - Blackened Sky/Vertigo Of Bliss
London Elektricity - Power Ballads/Billion Dollar Gravy
Nirvana - Nevermind
Led Zeppelin - Houses Of The Holy
Hendrix - Axis Bold As Love
A Perfect Circle - Mer De Noms
Guns N Roses - Use Your Illusion 1 and 2
Sikth - The Trees Are Dead And dried Out

Anything by aphex twin should be explored, his beats are amazing. IMO Richard D James is the level of production that boys like spectrasoul, noisia and alix perez are making now.
He is soo far ahead of the rest of the world.
Also for IDM check out all of Boards of Canada's releases and some Squarepusher.

If anyones looking for some Post Rock check out Do Make Say Think or Explosions in the Sky.

As far as rock goes My Bloody Valentine's Loveless is a production masterpiece. No one has come close to Kevin Shields masterpiece in that style.

I learned quite a bit of about Mixdowns and Mastering from listening to heavy metal... Atreyu's Lead sails and Paper Anchors album was engineered to perfection, and you can tell by hearing every single hit crisp clear and precise.

Blockhead - Music By Cavelight
Blockhead - Downtown Science
Burial - Untrue
Snot - Get Some
D-Bridge - The Gemini Principle LP
Massive Attack - Mezzanine

Electro: The Future Sound of London - ISDN, if you like aphex twin you will like FSOL, massive range of sounds too.

Rock: The Clash - The essential clash...

HipHop: Braintax - Panorama

Craig Armstrong stuff is also quite interesting musically, often used in dramatic film scores etc.

Sabrepulse - Nintendokore

London Elektricity - Power Ballads/Billion Dollar Gravy

I <3 Sabrepulse lol
and old LE material FTW!

For me, Bop's album "Clear Your Mind" has really changed how i see music. I don't know about anyone else, maybe it's just me.

I should probably give that guy another chance. I quickly disreguarded all his music. Mainly because of his track naming ability. I mean "a song about my dog" it dont sound very epic.

D-Bridge - The Gemini Principle LP
THIS and only THIS :not_worth

and go from there... all inside the
box 2...

That's actually a highlight of the album, he doesn't speak english to a high level so the titles aren't going to be a masterpiece of the english language.
