Saw a similar topic on another forum and thought it was useful to expand peoples musical horizons, as everyone in DNB comes from different musical background, so add your own recommendations, here's some of my thoughts:
Anything by Ludovico Einaudi
You may turn your nose up at classical piano, but anyone who’s seen This Is England will know how powerful this man’s compositions are
DJ Shadow – Entroducing...
For the few people in this world that don’t know, this albums in the Guinness book of records for the first album made completely from samples, this is a must listen
Mogwai – Happy Songs For Happy People
A staggeringly beautiful collection of post –rock instrumentals and soundscapes
MF Doom – Doomsday
Hip hop at it's best
Hans Zimmer – Gladiator Soundtrack
A huge range of sounds and ideas turns this score into epic stuff
Anything by King Tubby
One of the originators and true masters of the art of the dub
Jean-Michel Jarre– Oxygene I-VI
Maybe pretentious, but no getting away from the expert use of synthesis
Rage Against The Machine – Rage Against The Machine
Top notch production and groundbreaking use of guitar and fx by Tom Morello, coupled with Zach De La Rocha’s raw passion and political message, make this album a classic.
London Posse – Gangster Chronicles
True pioneers of UK Hip Hop
Goldie – Timeless
Need I say more?
Daft Punk – Homework
Way ahead of their time in the electronic music world
Linkin Park – Hybrid Theory
Love them or hate them, the production on this album is world class
Cypress Hill – Cypress Hill IV
Hard to pick a single Cypress Hill album, but this is definitely one of the best
Aphex Twin – Selected Ambient Works II
Possibly the best showcase of Richard David James’ talent
Others to check out in my opinion: Roots Manuva, Gorillaz, Erik B & Rakim, Kraftwerk, Asian Dub Foundation, Cinematic Orchestra, Bjork, James Brown etc...
