When they’re not remixing the likes of Example, Tinie Tempah and Avicii, or hosting BBC 1Xtra’s D&B mix show DC Breaks are busy making Dance floors the world over quake in fear. Their subwoofer-worrying, rib-rattling approach to writing drum & bass with a melodic spin has earned them a position as true leaders in the genre. All made the more potent as they prepare to unleash another immense release on the Ram Records imprint.

The ‘Firez’ EP embraces all aspects of the D&B genre, pulling in influences from across the board while showcasing the instantly recognisable DC Breaks’ signature sound. Quite simply one of their finest productions to date and collectively one you are undoubtedly going to hear battered by the D&B and Bass elite in clubs this spring and festivals throughout the summer.

Title track ‘Firez’ leads the way on the A side as it boasts a simple but infectiously cascading synth hook filling that main room gap between Swedish House Mafia and M83 but with all to rousing intricacies of that trade mark DC drum programming, relying on pure melody and musicality as opposed to a growling bassline and crunching drums….

The epic and apocalyptic opening of ‘Era’ is up next, a tune that builds and grows with orchestral provenance before dropping into a grimy Ram stamped roller packed with energy. Winding and grinding bassline sections are interspersed with calm moments that punctuate the drama perfectly.

Not skipping a beat, DC Breaks offer up the vocal magnificence of ‘Move Closer’ featuring the voice of Belle Humble. Matching soaring lyrical power with bubbling chunks of synthetic bass to intense effect, this track is already emerging as a favourite amongst the dance floor based fans all voting with both arms raised.

Finally ‘Shaken’ pulls off the friendly mask and heads into even harder, darker territory. Don’t let the light jungle breaks in the intro fool you, this track is prepared to snap your ribs if you so much as look at it funny – an advance lesson in how bass can damage your health for the better…

The intro of Shaken is great. The rest of the EP is kinda meh. Era is pretty cool....

...undecided!!

Move Closer is ok but im waiting for something abit harder like another Sub Focus - Stomp.

'salright, nothing on Come Closer, Halo EP etc. though in my opinion. A lot of artists on RAM and otherwise are heading in a similar direction
